Joint military Exercise AUSTRAHIND commenced at the Foreign Training Node, in Maharashtra

• The 3rd edition of joint military Exercise AUSTRAHIND between India and Australia, commenced at Foreign Training Node, Pune in Maharashtra today (November 8). The exercise will be conducted from 8th to 21st November 2024. Exercise AUSTRAHIND is an annual event conducted alternatively in India and Australia. The Last edition of the same exercise was conducted in Australia in December 2023.

NTPC launches world’s first CO₂-to-Methanol Plant

• NTPC, India’s largest power producer, inaugurated the world’s first CO₂-to-methanol conversion plant at its Vindhyachal facility on Friday, (November 8) coinciding with the company’s 50th Raising Day celebration. 

India Begins ‘Poorvi Prahaar’ Tri-Services Drill

• In a strategic move following the recent disengagement along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, India conducts a significant tri-services military exercise named 'Poorvi Prahaar'. Scheduled from today (November 8) this exercise aims to showcase India's integrated defense capabilities along its eastern frontier, The Poorvi Prahaar exercise will involve coordinated efforts from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, demonstrating their combat readiness.

Zverev wins Paris Masters, Securing 2024 Title

• Alexander Zverev, the German tennis star from Hamburg, claimed his second Masters 1000 title of 2024 with a decisive 6-2, 6-2 victory over France’s Ugo Humbert in the Paris Masters final. 

Indian skipper Harmanpreet, Holland's Jansen named FIH Players of the Year

• At the 49th International Hockey Federation (FIH) Statutory Congress in Oman, Indian hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh and Netherlands' midfielder Yibbi Jansen were named the FIH Player of the Year (2023-24) in the men's and women's categories, respectively. 

Mohammad Nabi to Retire from ODI Cricket After ICC Champions Trophy 2025

• Afghanistan’s iconic all-rounder, Mohammad Nabi, will close his illustrious ODI career following the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed this, marking the end of an era for one of Afghanistan’s most influential cricketers.

• ATMOS 2024, a three-day technical fest at BITS Pilani’s Hyderabad campus, begins November 8, promising an exciting array of intellectual and entertainment-packed activities. Running until November 10, this annual event brings together students to showcase their innovative skills and compete in dynamic contests like Robot Wars, Drone Racing, and Hackathons. Organized by students since 2012, ATMOS has evolved into one of India’s most-awaited tech events.

Legal Services Day

• The 9th of November is celebrated annually by all Legal Services Authorities as “Legal Services Day” in accordance with the call made by Chief Justice A.S. Anand in the First Annual Meet, the first Annual Meeting of the State Legal Services Authorities (NALSA) took place on September 12, 1998, in New Delhi. 

World Adoption Day

• World Adoption Day, observed on November 9, is a significant day dedicated to raising awareness about the life-changing impact of adoption. World Adoption Day was founded in 2014 by Hank Fortner and his team at Adopt Together, a non-profit organization that bridges the gap between children in need of families and parents eager to adopt.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released the World University Ranking: Asia 2025

• A total of 22 universities from India have found a place in the Asia region of the World University Rankings by QS, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) has secured the top spot under the Southern Asian category, which includes universities from India and Pakistan.
• The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) (44th position) clinched the top spot in India, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) is in the 48th position, and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is in the 56^th position, National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) Islamabad shares the 6th position in the South Asian category.
