India New Zealand Sign Bilateral Custom Cooperation Agreement
- To ease bilateral trade, India and New Zealand signed a bilateral Customs Cooperation Arrangement agreement. The agreement was signed in Wellington on 8 August 2024 during President Droupadi Murmu's two-day official visit to New Zealand.
- President Murmu is visiting three nations: Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor Leste. On her first leg of the visit, she visited Fiji, and on her second leg, she visited New Zealand on 8 and 9 August.

Neeraj Chopra wins Silver medal, Pakistan's Nadeem wins Gold at the Paris Olympics 2024
- Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed retaining his gold medal in the men's javelin throw at the Paris Olympics securing silver with a best throw of 45 metres. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem claimed the gold with a throw of 92.97 metres, breaking the previous Olympic record set by Denmark's Andreas Thorkildsen in Beijing in 2008.
Bronze for Men’s Hockey team In Paris Olympics and more
- The Indian men’s hockey team led by Harmanpreet Singh won the bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, beating Spain 2-1. The match to decide the bronze medal was held at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Paris, France, on 8 August 2024, This is the second back-to-back bronze medal for the Indian men’s hockey team after their bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, The match against Spain was also the last international match for the veteran Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh who announces retieremet.

IIT-Indore with DRDO develops shoes with GPS for the army
- Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore with Defence Research and Development Organisation has developed real-time tracking shoes, In addition to generating electricity, the shoes are equipped with sophisticated GPS and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology with a 50-metre range and a satellite-based GPS module that can help with precise live location tracking of military personnel.
ISRO to launch Remote Sensing EOS 8 Satellite on 55th Foundation Day
- The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch its Earth Observation Satellite-08 (EOS-08) on 15 August 2024, its 55th foundation day. ISRO was formed on 15 August 1969 as the premier space agency of the government of India.

C.S. Setty Appointed New Chairman of SBI, and More
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal to appoint Challa Sreenivasulu Setty as the Chairman of State Bank of India (SBI), India's largest lender. Setty's appointment, which will be for a period of three years, will be on or after August 28, 2024, and Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Deputy Managing Director (DMD), State Bank of India (SBI) has been appointed as Managing Director (MD) in SBI with effect from the date of assumption of charge.
SEBI Approves Praveena Rai as New MD & CEO of MCX
- Three months after the position remained vacant, capital market regulator SEBI approved Praveena Rai's appointment as the Managing Director and CEO of MCX, the country's largest commodity exchange, Praveena Rai, previously the COO of NPCI, brings over 20 years of experience in payments and banking.

International Day of World’s Indigenous People
- The International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples is observed on 9 August each year to raise awareness and protect the rights of the world's indigenous population. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared this special day in 1994, with resolution 49/214.
Nagasaki Day
- Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day is observed to mark the devastation of the atomic bombing during World War II. The horrors of ‘Little Boy’ on August 6th followed by ‘Fat Man’ on August 9th sparked global discussions on nuclear disarmament. This year marks the 79th anniversary of the nuclear attack which led to Japan’s surrender during World War II.

L&T Finance Receives RBI Certificate for NBFC-ICC Status
- L&T Finance Ltd. received the certificate of registration as a non-banking financial company (investment and credit company) from the Reserve Bank of India, The NBFC was earlier registered as an NBFC-Core Investment Company. However, after the company's merger with its wholly owned subsidiaries, L&T Finance, L&T Infra Credit Ltd. and L&T Mutual Fund Trustee Ltd., the company applied for conversion from an NBFC-CIC to an NBFC-ICC.
