India and Nepal ink B2B Deal for petroleum infrastructure, boosting energy ties

  • Nepal and India have reached the B2B Framework Agreement regarding the development of petroleum infrastructure in Nepal. Recently, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) inked a Business to Business (B2B) Framework Agreement in New Delhi in which the Executive Director of Nepal Oil Corporation, Dr Chandika Prasad Bhatta and Director of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Senthil Kumar, signed the Agreement in presence of Pankaj Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), Government of India and V. Satish Kumar, Chairman, IndianOil.

Rajnath Singh launches ADITI 2.0 and DISC 12

  • At the DefConnect 4.0 event held at the Manekshaw Centre, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 7 unveiled the second edition of Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX (ADITI 2.0) and the 12th edition of Defence India Start-up Challenges (DISC 12). These initiatives aim to foster innovation and entrepreneurship within India’s defence sector.

Nitish Kumar Unveils Logo, Mascot for Upcoming Women’s Asian Champions Trophy

  • Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the logo and mascot for the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024. Scheduled to take place in Rajgir from November 11 to 20, the tournament will feature the mascot named ‘Gudiya,’ inspired by Bihar’s state bird, the sparrow. The unveiling marks a significant step toward creating a vibrant atmosphere for the upcoming championship 

Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar announces retirement

  • Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar has announced her official retirement from professional competition. After giving 25 years to the sport, Dipa, a prominent and celebrated figure in the world of gymnastics, decided to take a step back due to the physical demands of the sport on her body. 

India finishes at top at ISSF Junior World shooting championship    

  • In shooting, Indian shooters topped the medals tally at ISSF Junior World Shooting Championship with an impressive 24 medals, including 13 gold, 3 silver, and 8 bronze in Peru. Italy finished in second place, while Norway took the third spot.

Sanjeev Kumar Singla appointed as India’s next Ambassador to France

  • Diplomat Sanjeev Kumar Singla has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to France, An Indian Foreign Service officer of batch 1997, Singla presently serves as the Ambassador of India to Israel. His contributions to shaping India’s foreign policy towards Israel have been described as significant. 

Narayanan to bow out after 26 yrs with Nestle group

  • Suresh Narayanan, Chairman and Managing Director of Nestlé India, is set to retire on July 31 next year, marking the end of an era that began 26 years ago with the Nestlé group, a multinational giant in the food and beverage space. His tenure is perhaps most famously defined by his role in reviving the Maggi noodles brand. 

SLC announces Sanath Jayasuriya as men’s team head coach

  • Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that Sanath Jayasuriya will be the head coach of the national team. The board informed the media that the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket took the decision taking into consideration the team’s good performances in the recent tours against India, England, and New Zealand.

Indian Air Force Day

  • Indian Air Force Day is celebrated every year on October 8 to honour the Indian Air Force (IAF) and its pilots who dedicate their lives to protecting India. The Indian Air Force was officially formed on October 8, 1932. Its first flight took off on April 1, 1933, with six RAF-trained officers and 19 airmen. The aircraft fleet included four Westland Wapiti IIA biplanes stationed at Drigh Road, forming the “A” Flight nucleus of No.1 (Army Co-operation) Squadron.
  • This year, the IAF celebrates its 92nd anniversary under the theme “Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar” (Potent, Powerful, and Self-Reliant), reflecting the force’s commitment to safeguarding India’s skies.

Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun, winners of 2024 Nobel Prize in Medicine

  • In 2024, the Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm announced that Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun had been awarded the prestigious Nobel Prize in Medicine. Their groundbreaking work, recognized for its profound implications in the field of molecular biology, centered on the discovery of microRNA (miRNA) and its crucial role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.
