NCPCR declares mica mines in Jharkhand as child labour free

  • The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) declared the Mica mines of Jharkhand' child labour-free' at an event in Koderma, Jharkhand, on 5 July 2024. Speaking at the function, the NCPCR chairperson Priyank Kanoongo announced that this is the first-ever successful endeavour to cleanse a supply chain of child labour in mica mining,
  • Note: Working children up to 14 years of age are called child labour in India. 

Shri Amit Shah inaugurates Amin PJKP Vidhyarthi Bhavan  

  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Amin PJKP Vidhyarthi Bhavan in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Many dignitaries including Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel were present on the occasion, Shri Amit Shah also inaugurated the modern multispecialty SLiMS Hospital in Ahmedabad. 

Waaree Renewable Technologies gets 412.5 MW solar project in Rajasthan

  • Waaree Renewable Technologies Ltd (WRTL) has secured a contract to set up a 412.5 megawatt solar project in Rajasthan, The project will be set up on engineering, procurement and contract (EPC) basis. 

India Unveils Indigenous Light Tank named Zorawar

  • India has unveiled the ‘Zorawar’ light tank, developed jointly by DRDO and Larsen & Toubro, aimed at bolstering military capabilities in high-altitude environments. Designed within a record two-year timeframe, the tank features advanced weaponry and protection systems, including a 105mm rifled cannon and composite modular armor.

Lewis Hamilton Wins the British Grand Prix 2024

  • Lewis Hamilton wins British Grand Prix for the ninth time, a race-long fight with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris at a gripping, wet-dry British Grand Prix to take his first victory since December 2021, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff described the win as “a fairytale” for them and Hamilton, Norris’ team-mate Oscar Piastri, who was also in the lead fight for the first half of the race, took fourth place ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.

Launching of Bhartiya Antariksh Hackathon-2024

  • The Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon is being organized as part of National Space Day-2024 Celebrations was launched by the Secretary, DOS/ Chairman, ISRO. Dr. S Somanath on July 4, 2024. Twelve problem statements in the areas of Geospatial Domain, Space Science, Image Processing, and AI/ML areas are identified for the hackathon and declared open for undergraduate / postgraduate / PhD students across the country. A team of 3 to 4 students can participate and address the challenges with innovative solutions, “National Space Day” will be celebrated on 23rd August every year.

Arun Appointed new Chennai police Commissioner

  • The Tamil Nadu government on Monday transferred Sandeep Rai Rathore as Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai and replaced him with senior IPS officer A Arun, Arun is presently Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order. 

BYD India appoints Rajeev Chauhan as VP of electric passenger vehicle business

  • Automaker BYD India has appointed Rajeev Chauhan as Vice President of the electric passenger vehicle Business, He takes over from Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, who is retiring after over three decades in the Indian automotive industry.
  • Chauhan, who has worked in Honda Cars India and Volvo Car India on earlier stints, will spearhead the overall electric passenger vehicle business of BYD India. 

Elisa de Anda Madrazo Assumes FATF Presidency for 2024-2026

  • Elisa de Anda Madrazo of Mexico has assumed the presidency of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for a two-year term from July 2024 to June 2026, Ms. De Anda currently serves as Director General in Mexico’s Ministry of Finance and Public Credit. Previously, she served as Attaché to the Mexican Embassy in Washington DC (2015-2019). In addition, in 2016.

Karnataka govt inks Rs 1,040 cr MoUs with DN Solutions and EMNI in South Korea

  • The Karnataka government signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) totalling Rs 1,040 crore with DN Solutions and EMNI Co. Ltd in Seoul, South Korea,
  • DN Solutions has committed an investment of Rs 1000 crore towards establishing machine manufacturing facilities, a research and development center, and a technical support center for Indian manufacturing companies.
  • EMNI Co. Ltd, represented by CEO Chang-hoon Koh, committed a Rs 40 crore investment in Karnataka for battery technology advancements. The company has signed an MoU worth Rs 40 crore to invest in storing, testing, and recycling LG Energy Solution's battery cells in Karnataka.
