India successfully carries out launch of Agni-4 ballistic missile

  • India has carried out a successful launch of an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile, Agni-4, from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha, It was conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command. The launch marks another milestone in strengthening India’s defence capabilities.

Praveen Kumar Wins Gold Medal in in the Men’s high jump at Paralympics 2024

  • Indian para-athlete Praveen Kumar secured a gold medal for the country at the ongoing Paris Paralympics in the men’s high jump.
  • In the medal round, Praveen achieved a record-breaking jump of 2.08 meters, setting a new Asian record. The silver and bronze positions were claimed by the USA’s Derek Loccident, with a jump of 2.06 meters, and Uzbekistan’s Temurbek Giyazov, who cleared 2.03 meters, respectively. 

Wrestler Jyoti Berwal wins gold medal in U20 World Championships

  • In wrestling, Jyoti Berwal clinched a gold medal in the women’s 76 kg freestyle category at the U20 World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain. Jyoti defeated Ukraine’s Mariia Orlevych in the final yesterday without giving her a chance to score a single point.

6th India-Saudi Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation meeting in Riyadh

  • The 6th meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 4 September 2024.
  • The Indian side was led by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad, which included officials from the Ministry of Defence. Major General Salman Bin Awadh Al-Harbi led the Saudi Arabian delegation. 

India and Maldives held 5th Defence Cooperation Dialogue in New Delhi

  • The fifth Defence Cooperation Dialogue between India and the Maldives took place in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, while the Maldivian delegation was headed by Chief of Defence Force, General lbrahim Hilmy.
  • The meeting provided both sides with an opportunity to discuss the matters related to bilateral defence cooperation. This included expediting the implementation of various ongoing defence cooperation projects.

Zurich Insurance Group acquired a 70% stake in Kotak General Insurance 

  • Kotak General Insurance has rebranded itself as Zurich Kotak General Insurance after Zurich Insurance Group acquired a 70% stake in the company.
  • This acquisition, finalised on June 18, marks a major foreign investment in India’s general insurance sector following the government’s increase in the foreign direct investment (FDI) limit to 74% in 2021. 

Star Health launches India’s first health insurance policy in Braille

  • Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd (Star Health Insurance) has launched a policy in Braille with this step the visually-impaired people can access information and make independent choices on matters related to their health and finances.
