Union Minister Piyush Goyal Inaugurates Mith Chowky Flyover in Malad, Mumbai

• Union Minister Piyush Goyal today inaugurated a flyover at Mith Chowky in Mumbai’s western suburban Malad area, connecting Marve to the western express highway. 

Rajnath Singh inaugurated the DefConnect 4.0 at Manekshaw Centre

• Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh on October 07, 2024, inaugurated the DefConnect 4.0 at Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt, a significant step towards advancing indigenous innovation and celebrating the growing defence ecosystem of the country. The event is being organised by Innovations for Defence Excellence - Defence Innovation Organisation (iDEX-DIO), under Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence. 

Meghalaya Chief Minister Unveils GREEN Meghalaya Plus Scheme 

• Conrad K Sangma, Meghalaya Chief Minister launched the GREEN (Grassroot level Response Towards Ecosystem Enhancement and Nurturing) Meghalaya Plus (GMP) Scheme in the first week of October in the state. The main purpose for the launching of the scheme is for conservation and enhancement of forest cover.

Coco Gauff won the 2024 WTA China Open

• 20-year-old American tennis star Coco Gauff defeated Karolina Muchová of the Czech Republic to win the 2024 WTA China Open Tennis tournament. The China Open was a WTA 1000 event held in Beijing, China. The final was played on 6 October 2024.

Veteran Actor Mohanraj, Iconic ‘Keerikkadan Jose’, Passed Away

• Veteran Malayalam actor Mohanraj, famed for his unforgettable villainous role as “Keerikkadan Jose’‘ in the classic film Kireedam, passed away on October 3, 2024, at his residence in Kanjirankulam. Known for his remarkable contributions to the Malayalam film industry, Mohanraj’s demise was confirmed by actor-director P Dinesh Panicker on Facebook,

World Cotton Day

• World Cotton day is celebrated on 7 October as a global celebration of cotton and its stakeholders, from field to fabric and beyond. At the initiative of the Cotton-4 (Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali), the World Trade Organisation made the launch of World Cotton Day on 7 October 2019.
• In August 2021, the General Assembly of the United Nations recognised the unique benefits of cotton by proclaiming 7 October of each year as World Cotton Day. 

World Habitat Day

• World Habitat Day is marked on the first Monday of October each year, and is recognized by the United Nations to reflect on the state of towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter, This year the World Habitat Day will be held on October 7.

Maharashtra govt and SAI sign MoU to establish National Centre of Excellence in Mumbai

• A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Maharashtra and the Sports Authority of India was signed for the establishment of the National Centre of Excellence in Kandivali, Mumbai. The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal.

LIC Increases Stake in Bank of Maharashtra

• The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has significantly boosted its stake in Bank of Maharashtra from 4.05% to 7.10%, via QIP as disclosed in an exchange filing on October 5, 2024.
