Australia Announces Maitri Grants For Research & Cultural Collaboration with India

Indian Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Disqualified From Paris Olympic 2024

  • Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics after failing to meet weight requirement for her 50 kg gold medal. As per the report, Phogat was reportedly over the permissible weight limit by just 100 grams, which lead to her disqualification. According to competition rules, she will not be eligible for a silver medal, leaving only gold and bronze winners in the 50 kg category.

National Handloom Day: India

  • Every year on August 7th, India celebrates National Handloom Day, a tribute to its rich heritage of traditional weaving and the invaluable contributions of handloom weavers.

National Javelin Day

  • India declared August 7 as National Javelin Day, a fitting tribute to Chopra's golden throw and a day to celebrate the sport that brought India unprecedented glory on the world stage, On August 7, 2021, Neeraj Chopra etched his name in history by winning India's first-ever Olympic gold medal in track and field. (Tokyo Olympics, 2020 held in 2021) His historic javelin throw of 87.58 metres not only secured the gold but also made him the second Indian to win an individual Olympic gold, following Abhinav Bindra.
