NCW launches Digital Shakti Centre to combat cyber crimes

  • The Digital Shakti Center was officially inaugurated by Chairperson Rekha Sharma at NCW premises in New Delhi, The National Commission for Women inaugurated the Digital Shakti Center to combat cyber-crimes against women. 

IAF gives clearance to DRDO, BDL for Astra missile production

  • The Indian Air Force has given its green signal for the production of 200 Astra mark-1 (Mk-1) missiles for its Su-30 MKI and the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft Tejas to the Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Former England cricketer Graham Thorpe Passes Away at 55

  • Former England test batter Graham Thorpe has died, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Monday. He was 55. A stylish and fluid top-order batter, Thorpe played 100 tests for England from 1993 to 2005. He scored 16 hundreds, including on debut against Australia at Trent Bridge.

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Resigns, the end of 15 years ruling Bangladesh

  • On August 5, 2024, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who had held power for 15 consecutive years, abruptly tendered her resignation and left the country.
  • Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 76, who resigned and fled the country in an army helicopter on Monday amid widespread unrest, has been known for using this term to label anyone she perceived as a threat or dissenter during her more than 15 years in power.

  • Every year, August 6 is observed solemnly as Hiroshima Day around the world and this year will be the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the Japanese city by the United States during World War II in 1945.

Nagaland government inks DRTPS MoU with SBI General Insurance

  • Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for ‘Disaster Risk Transfer Parametric Insurance Solutions (DRTPS)’ on behalf of the Nagaland Government with SBI General Insurance Company Limited in the presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, at his office chamber here in Secretariat, Kohima. 

5th AITIGA Joint Committee Meeting Held in Jakarta

  • The 5th AITIGA Joint Committee and related meetings for review of ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) were held in ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, Indonesia from 29th July to 1st August 2024, marking a significant milestone in enhancing economic cooperation between ASEAN and India.

  • President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a significant two-day state visit to Fiji, marking a milestone in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.   • Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has climbed the 86th position on the Fortune Global 500 list for 2024, from 88th spot and making a significant jump of 69 places over the past three years. This year is the 21st consecutive year RIL has been part of the list, the longest for any Indian private sector company.

  • Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, unveiled a book titled “India@100: Envisioning Tomorrow’s Economic Powerhouse”, written by former Chief Economic Advisor Shri K V Subramanian. Shri Subramanian in the book predicts India can achieve a $55 trillion economy by 2047 if the nation sustains an 8% annual growth rate.
