Bharat Electronics, Israel Aerospace Industries form joint venture firm

  • Navratna defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel's leading aerospace and defence company, have announced the establishment of a joint venture company (JVC), which has been incorporated in the name of BEL IAI AeroSystems Private Ltd. 

United Kindom agrees to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius

  • The United Kingdom and Mauritius have reached an agreement under which the United Kingdom will return the Chagos Islands and the atoll of Diego Garcia to Mauritius. This agreement marks the end of British colonialism on the African continent.

Adani Group and Google join Forces to boost Clean Energy in India

  • Adani Group and Google have announced a collaboration to accelerate sustainability efforts and enhance India's clean energy landscape. Adani will supply renewable energy from a new solar-wind hybrid project in Khavda, Gujarat, (Home to the world's largest renewable energy plant) to Google starting in 2025.

Indian Trio Wins Gold in Men’s 25m Rapid-Fire Pistol at ISSF Junior World Championship

  • In shooting, the trio of Mukesh Nelavalli, Raajwardan Patil, and Harsimar Singh Rattha secured victory in the men’s 25-meter rapid-fire pistol team competition at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Peru. This win also marks the 11th gold medal for India in the championship.

Meta unveils AI tool that can generate, edit videos based on text prompts

  • Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc debuted a new artificial intelligence tool Movie Gen that can generate or edit videos based on a simple text prompt, elevating competition with rivals like OpenAI and Google in the race to develop the world’s most advanced AI technology.

Paytm appoints DS Rathore as CTO and more

  • One97 Communications (OCL), the company that operates brand Paytm, appointed former Paytm Payments Bank executive Deependra Singh Rathore as new chief technology officer (CTO) - payments, and senior management personnel (SMP) at the firm.
  • Previously, Rathore had served as senior vice-president at Paytm Payments Bank, OCL’s associate firm which faced the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) action in January.

World Teachers' Day

  • World Teachers' Day is an international day held annually on 5 October to celebrate the work of teachers. Established in 1994, it commemorates the signing of recommendation by the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. 

Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit to be held in Islamabad

  • External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Islamabad to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit on 15th October and 16th October. External Affairs Ministry’s Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed this during a media briefing in Delhi.

ADB grants $162 mn to support tourism development in Himachal Pradesh

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced on 2 October 2024 that it has sanctioned a USD 162 million loan to Himachal Pradesh to support tourism development in the state, the loan has been provided to finance the state government's Sustainable and Inclusive Tourism Development Project. 

Federal Bank Teams Up with Bhashini to Add Vernacular Support to Chatbot Feddy

  • Federal Bank has partnered with Bhashini to enhance its AI chatbot, Feddy, with support for 14 Indian languages. This initiative, driven by the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH), aims to make banking services more inclusive and accessible to a diverse range of customers across India.
