Yamandú Orsi Sworn in as President of Uruguay
- Yamandú Orsi has been sworn in as Uruguay’s President marking the return of the leftist Broad Front coalition after a five-year conservative rule. A former history teacher and mayor, Orsi has pledged to strengthen Uruguay’s social safety net while addressing economic stagnation.
Christian Stocker became the Federal Chancellor of Austria, and PM Modi congratulated
- The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi congratulated E. Mr. Christian Stocker on being sworn in as the Federal Chancellor of Austria. He added that the India-Austria Enhanced Partnership was poised to make steady progress in the years to come.
IIFT and APEC sign Pact to Boost International Trade Education & Collaboration
- The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the APEC – Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center, Belgium, marking a significant milestone in advancing academic cooperation in the fields of international trade, logistics, and supply chain management. India to host 2nd Asian Yogasana Championship
- The second Asian Yogasana Championship, scheduled to be held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi from March 29 to 31, A total of 16 countries will participate in the second Asian Yogasana Championship.
India’s First World Peace Center Inaugurated in Gurugram
- India has taken a significant step towards global peace and harmony with the inauguration of the country’s first World Peace Center in Gurugram, Haryana. The centre, established by Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti under the guidance of Jain Acharya Lokesh, aims to promote non-violence, spiritual awareness, human values, and universal brotherhood.

Krishna Jayasankar becomes 1st Indian woman to cross 16m in indoor shot put
- India’s Krishna Jayasankar made history at the 2025 Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships by becoming the first Indian woman to cross the 16-metre mark in indoor shot put. Her record-breaking throw measured 16.03 metres. The 22-year-old broke the previous Indian indoor record of 15.54 metres. Poornarao Rane set that record at the 2023 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
- Krishna was in fourth place until the penultimate round. However, she clinched the bronze medal with her final throw. Mya Lesnar of the USA bagged the Gold while compatriot Gabby Morns claimed a sliver.
OBITUARY
Padmakar Shivalkar, a left-arm spin stalwart of the 1960s and 70s, passes away
- Shri Padmakar Shivalkar passed away in Mumbai at the age of 84 on March 4, 2025. The legendary left-arm spinner was a stalwart of Indian domestic cricket, renowned for his unparalleled skill and dedication to the game.

Vineet Sharma Appointed Director (HR) of Yantra India Limited
- Vineet Sharma is set to be the next Director (Human Resources) of Yantra India Limited, a PSU under the Ministry of Defence. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB).
- Sharma is an Indian Ordinance Factories Service (IOFS) officer of the 1996 batch. Presently, he is serving as Executive Director at Ordnance Factory Muradnagar (OFM).
Devesh Chaturvedi (IAS) assigned additional charge as Secretary of DARE
- The Central Government has assigned IAS Devesh Chaturvedi the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE).
- Chaturvedi, who currently serves as Secretary, of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, will hold this position until a regular appointment is made or until further orders.
