Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Resigns after Electoral Defeat

  • Following a massive defeat in the State Assembly and Parliamentary elections, Odisha Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year tenure came to an end as he submitted his resignation to Governor Raghubar Das at the Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.
  • The Bharatiya Janata Party won 78 seats in the 147-seat assembly. The BJD managed to secure only 51 seats, falling well short of the majority mark of 74, while the Indian National Congress won 14 seats.

ISRO develops PraVaHa software for aerodynamic design and analysis

  • The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software “Parallel RANS Solver for Aerospace Vehicle Aero-thermo-dynamic Analysis” (PraVaHa) is developed in VSSC to simulate external and internal flows on launch vehicles, winged & nonwinged re-entry vehicles. Initial aerodynamic design studies for launch vehicles demand evaluation of a large number of configurations.
  • Any aerospace vehicle while moving through the earth's atmosphere during ‘launch’ or ‘reentry’ is subjected to severe aerodynamic and aerothermal loads in terms of external pressure and heat flux. 

SEBI launches Saarthi 2.0 Mobile App on Personal Finance for investors

  • The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) launched “Saa₹thi2.0” mobile app at SEBI Bhavan, Mumbai. The updated “Saa₹thi” app introduces a user-friendly interface with comprehensive tools aimed at simplifying complex financial concepts.
  • It includes financial calculators, and has modules that introduce and explain KYC procedures, mutual  funds,  ETFs,  buying  and selling  shares  on  stock  exchanges,  investor  grievances  redressal  mechanism,  and  the Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform. Additionally, the app features a range of videos designed toassist investors in their personal finance planning. 

Captivating blue-colored ant discovered in India's remote Siang Valley

  • The metallic-blue colored ant was discovered in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, a state located in northeast India.
  • It has been named ‘Paraparatrechina neela’, the word ‘neela’ is used for the color blue in several Indian languages.
  • Remarkably, according to the researchers, it is also the first new species of Paraparatrechina in 121 years, since the description of the sole previously known species, P. aseta (Forel, 1902), in the Indian subcontinent. 

Nvidia Unveils AI Chip Platform Rubin for 2026

  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang revealed the company’s groundbreaking next-generation AI chip platform, Rubin, set for a 2026 release, Jensen Huang in a keynote address during the Nvidia GTC Artificial Intelligence Conference at SAP Center on March 18, 2024 in San Jose, California. 

IIT Dharwad unveils fire rescue assistant drone

  • A team of teachers and students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dharwad, led by Sudheer Siddapureddy and Ameer Mulla, has developed a fire rescue assistant drone, The project was completed with funding from TiHAN Foundation, IIT Hyderabad (NMICPS, Government of India).
  • Drones with thermal cameras installed on them, or drones with thermal imaging capabilities, are frequently used by firefighters. The infrared radiation that objects, including flames, emanate can be detected and captured by the specialist thermal sensors fitted to these drones.

World Environment Day

  • World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June to put a spotlight on environmental challenges of our time. World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, stopping desertification and building drought resilience, With the theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”, the world is gearing up to commemorate World Environment Day 2024.
  • World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly as a platform for raising awareness of pressing environmental problems and encouraging global action. The first was a meeting held in Stockholm, Sweden in 1972 where it was debated and discussed. From that point forward, from 1973, and the custom has continued ahead with a similar date. 

International Day for the Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing

  • Fisheries play a crucial role in providing food, employment, recreation, trade, and economic well-being to people worldwide. In a world grappling with a growing population and persistent hunger, fish has emerged as an essential commodity for achieving food security.
  • In 2009 the FAO Conference adopted the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. The Agreement is binding and stipulates minimum port State measures to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. It entered into force on 5 June 2016.

PV Sindhu becomes the brand ambassador for biofortified staples brand Greenday's Better Nutrition

  • Indian badminton star, two-time Olympic medalist, and World Champion PV Sindhu has announced her investment and brand ambassadorship with Greenday's ‘Better Nutrition’ brand, This collaboration aims to combat micronutrient deficiencies in India through biofortified foods, enhancing both consumer health and farmer livelihoods.
  • Greenday, founded by IIM Ahmedabad alumni Prateek Rastogi and Aishwarya Bhatnagar, is at the forefront of efforts to increase the nutritional value of staple crops.

Ashok Leyland rolls out ‘Sarathi Suraksha’ insurance policy

  • In a move towards safeguarding the driver community and offering a unique customer experience with the ownership of its commercial-grade vehicles, Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group announces the launch of ‘Sarathi Suraksha Policy,’ a comprehensive insurance policy.
  • Ashok Leyland claims that the “Sarathi Suraksha Policy” provides coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per chassis for accidental death and permanent and partial disability. This policy also covers other aspects such as accidental hospitalization and special education bonuses for children.
