Keir Starmer: The Next British Prime Minister

  • Keir Starmer will become Britain's next Prime Minister on Friday as his Labour Party won a massive majority in the UK's parliamentary election. Rishi Sunak conceded defeat in the national election, Keir Starmer, born in 1963 to a working-class family near London, has a background in human rights law and public prosecution, he entered politics relatively late, becoming an MP in 2015.

CM Mohan Yadav Launches ‘Lokpath’ Mobile App

  • Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has launched ‘Lokpath’ Mobile App for the public, The mobile app will provide the facility to the general public to report the problems of the roads and will also ensure the accountability of the officers. Lokpath Mobile App has been prepared by Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation Limited.

Robert Towne, Oscar-Winning Screenwriter of ‘Chinatown,’ Passes Away

  • Robert Towne, a screenwriter whose mastery of dialogue and insightful storytelling helped define the New Hollywood wave in the 1970s that included the Oscar-winning “Chinatown,” and who also built a reputation as a “script doctor” to rescue troubled projects, died July 1 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 89.

SBI General Insurance Appoints Naveen Chandra Jha as New MD & CEO

  • SBI General Insurance Company Ltd. has appointed Shri Naveen Chandra Jha as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He succeeds Shri Kishore Kumar Poludasu, nominated by parent company State Bank of India.
  • Shri Naveen Chandra Jha brings nearly three decades of experience with State Bank of India, holding various critical roles including Deputy Managing Director and Chief General Manager of Amaravati Circle, Andhra Pradesh, before assuming his new role. 

Hemant Soren Takes Oath as Chief Minister of Jharkhand

  • Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president Hemant Soren to form the government, a day after Champai Soren stepped down from the chief minister’s post, Soren took oath as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand as Champai Soren resigned from the post just five months after taking the oath. 

Justice BR Sarangi appointed Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court

  • The Central government has notified the appointment of Justice BR Sarangi as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. Significantly, the Centre's notification comes almost 6 months after the Supreme Court Collegium proposed Justice Sarangi's elevation. He is now set to retire in less than a month on July 20. He is currently the senior most Judge of the Orissa High Court and will fill the post. 

RBI Appoints Charulatha S Kar as Executive Director

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Charulatha S Kar as new Executive Director, with effect from July 1. 2024.
  • Kar will look after Department of Communication, Human Resource Management Department, and Right to Information (First Appellate Authority), RBI said in a release.
  • Prior to being promoted as ED, Kar was serving as Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Human Resource Management Department.

NABARD partners with Online PSB Loans Ltd to digitalize Jan Suraksha Schemes

  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Online PSB Loans Limited have signed an agreement to promote financial inclusion through regional rural banks. The collaboration seeks to smoothen the process of enrolment and claim settlement under the Jan Suraksha Schemes for all 43 Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) onboarded on one platform through the Jan Suraksha Portal.
