VIRAASAT an exhibition to celebrate 10th National Handloom Day begins in New Delhi

  • VIRAASAT a fortnight long exhibition dedicated to celebrating 10th National Handloom Day (Celebrated on 7th of August every year), began at Handloom Haat in Janpath – New Delhi on Saturday, 3rd August, 2024. National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC) is organising the handloom expo under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India which will conclude on 16th August, 2024. 

Jharkhand announces Mukhyamantri Maiyaan Samman Yojana for women

  • The Hemant Soren government in Jharkhand has launched the Mukhyamantri Maiyaan Samman Yojana to provide financial assistance to eligible women in the state. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will officially launch the scheme on 16 August 2024.

Iconic Classical Dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy Passes Away

  • Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi veteran Yamini Krishnamurti died at the Apollo Hospital here on Saturday. She was 84. She was suffering from age-related issues and was in the ICU for the last seven months.

  • Serbia's Novak Djokovic clinched gold in the tennis men's singles event at the Paris Olympics 2024, as he beat Spain's Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3), 7-6(2), in an enthralling neck-and-neck final. 

Star Shooter Manu Bhaker Set to Be India’s Flagbearer in Closing Ceremony of Paris Olympics

  • Manu Bhaker, India’s two-time Olympic bronze medallist, has been chosen to be India’s flagbearer for the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024. According the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Bhaker will represent India as the women’s flagbearer during the event. 

Noah Lyles wins men’s 100m gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024

  • Team USA's Noah Lyles took the gold in the men's 100-meter final at the Paris Olympics — by five thousandths of a second. Lyles, won with a time of 9.784 seconds, came out just barely ahead of Jamaica's Kishane Thompson (who ran in 9.789) and USA's Fred Kerley (whose time was 9.81).

  • Film producer Janet Yang has been re-elected for a third term as the President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Alongside her re-election, several new board officers have been appointed to key positions within the Academy.
