Nepal to export 40 Megawatts of electricity to Bangladesh via India’s power grid

  • India, Nepal, and Bangladesh have signed a trilateral agreement to export 40 megawatts of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh via India’s power grid. The tripartite agreement signed in Kathmandu yesterday enables Nepal to sell electricity to Bangladesh for the first time. Nepal has only been exporting electricity to India.

12th CMS Vatavaran Film Festival on Environment Inaugurated in Delhi

  • The 12th International Film Festival and Forum on Environment and Wildlife, known as CMS Vatavaran, started in New Delhi on 3rd October 2024. Asia’s biggest green film festival, focussed on the environment and wildlife, is being held in New Delhi from 3-5 October 2024. The theme for the three-day film festival is “Wetlands for Life”, focusing on the awareness and conservation of the wetlands eco-system. 

Marriott International to set up GCC in Hyderabad, first in hospitality

  • Marriott International will set up a Global Capability Center (GCC) in Hyderabad, which will be its first such offshore unit in India and will help support Marriott’s various operations across its global enterprise in 141 countries and territories, Marriott Tech Accelerator is also -- in all likelihood -- the first ever GCC from a hospitality major being set-up in India. 

Ashok Leyland partners with Japan's Nidec to develop e-drive motors

  • Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group, has signed a multipronged partnership agreement with Japan-based global electric motor drives manufacturer Nidec Motor Corporation, a subsidiary of Nidec Corporation. This partnership will enable both Ashok Leyland and Nidec to develop novel e-drive motors and systems that cater to the specific needs of India's commercial vehicle industry, ensuring advanced and efficient electric mobility solutions. 

PwC India collaborates with Meta to expand its open-source AI solutions

  • PwC India announced its collaboration with Meta to expand and scale its open-source artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for enterprises and citizen services using Meta's Llama models. 

Classical Language Status Granted to Marathi, Bengali, Pali, Prakrit, and Assamese

  • Union Cabinet approved the conferral of classical language status to Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Pali, and Prakrit on October 3, 2024. This decision, following long-pending demands, highlights India’s rich linguistic heritage and aims to preserve and promote these ancient languages.

Arti Sarin Appointed DG of Armed Forces Medical Services

  • Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, became the first woman officer to take over as the Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS). The DGAFMS is directly responsible to the Ministry of Defence for overall medical policy matters which relate to the Armed Forces.

World Animal Welfare Day / World Animal Day / World Animal Protection Day

  • World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, World Animal Day, was originated by cynologist Heinrich Zimmermann. He organized the first World Animal Day on March 24, 1925, at the Sport Palace in Berlin, Germany. 

World Space Week

  • World Space Week (WSW) is an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. 

BANKING AND ECONOMY

SEBI imposes Rs 12 lakh penalty on NSE Data & Analytics

  • SEBI has fined NSE Data & Analytics ₹12 lakh for regulatory violations during an inspection from September 6-7, 2023. Key issues included the lack of segregation of IT infrastructure from its parent, NSE, delayed acknowledgment letters to investors, and cybersecurity lapses.
