Halla Tomasdottir elected Iceland’s New President
- Businesswoman and investor Halla Tomasdottir has been elected as Iceland's seventh President. She will be sworn in on 1 August 2024 and replace the incumbent president, Guana Johannesson. The President of Iceland has a term of four years.
- The contest was mainly between businesswoman Halla Tomasdottir, former Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir, and Arctic and energy scholar Halla Hrund Logadottir,
Helen Mary Roberts becomes First Woman Brigadier in Pakistan Army from Minority Community
- Dr Helen Mary Roberts, serving in the Pakistan Army Medical Corps, has made history by becoming the first woman from the Christian and minority community to achieve the rank of brigadier in the Muslim-majority country.
- Roberts was among Pakistan Army officers promoted as brigadiers and full colonels by the Selection Board.

Zupee Joins Forces with Gurugram Cyber Police to Promote Cyber Security Awareness
- In its bid to strengthen the cyber security ecosystem, Zupee, India's largest skill-based Ludo platform, has partnered with the Gurugram Cyber Police, for the 11th edition of the Cyber Security Summer Internship Program, called 'Cyber Warriors'.
- The Gurugram Police Cyber Security Summer Internship Program (GPCSSI 2024) is a flagship event of the Gurugram Police since 2013. The month-long internship starts today, with Zupee as its knowledge partner.
Department of Administrative reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) Secretary presents “CPGRAMS:
- Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) is an online platform available to the citizens 24x7 to lodge their grievances to the public authorities on any subject related to service delivery. It is a single portal connected to all the Ministries/Departments of Government of India and States.
- Every Ministry and States have role-based access to this system. CPGRAMS is also accessible to the citizens through standalone mobile application downloadable through Google Play store and mobile application integrated with UMANG.

All-rounder Kedar Jadhav Retires from all forms of Cricket
- 39-year-old former Indian all-rounder Kedar Jadhav announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He is the second former Indian cricketer to announce his retirement from cricket.
- Kedar Jadhav played for Maharatsra in domestic cricket and made his international debut against Sri Lanka in 2014 in a One Day International (ODI) played at Ranchi, Jharkhand.
- Kedar Jadhav was a middle-order batsman and an off-spinner bowler. He represented India in the ODI and T20 formats of the game, but he never played a Test match.
- Kedar Jadhav, who was part of the 2019 World Cup side, last played an ODI for India against New Zealand in Auckland on February 8, 2020.

India’s First Female UN Ambassador, Ruchira Kamboj, Retires after 35 years
- After an illustrious career spanning over 35 years, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, has retired, The first woman diplomat to hold the prestigious position of Ambassador of India at the UN, Kamboj - In 1987, excelled in the Civil Services Examination and began her diplomatic journey in Paris, France.
- She worked as Third Secretary in the Indian Embassy to France and Second Secretary before returning to Delhi. She worked as Under Secretary in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, handling India’s relationship with the Commonwealth of Nations. From 1996-1999, she served as First Secretary and Head of Chancery at the Indian High Commission in Mauritius. She later served as Deputy Secretary and Director in charge of Foreign Service Personnel and Cadre in Delhi.

International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression
- International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is observed on June 4 each year in a bid to lay emphasis on the rights of children and protect children around the world from incidents of violence, sexual abuse and terror.
- The day reaffirms the United Nations commitment to protect the rights of children. Its work is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most rapidly and widely ratified international human rights treaty in history.

IndiGo to host IATA annual general meeting in Delhi next year – June 2025
- IndiGo will host the 81st annual general meeting of the International Airport Transport Association (IATA) in Delhi in June 2025 and the meeting will be held in the country after a gap of 42 years.
- The decision to host the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in India was made at the ongoing AGM here, India has hosted the AGM twice in the past in Delhi -- in 1958 and 1983.
Nokia and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya sign MoU for research on transportation and logistics
- Nokia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to pursue research and development opportunities in the areas of transportation and logistics in India.
- The MoU was signed at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of Sh. Ashwini Vaishnaw (Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology) and senior officials.
21st Shangri La Dialogue Conducted in Singapore
- The 21st edition of the Asia Pacific premier defense meet, the Shangri La Dialogue or the Asian Security Summit, ended in Singapore on 2 June 2024. The Shangri La Dialogue was held at the Shangri La Hotel in Singapore from 31 May to 2 June 2024. It was attended by over a hundred delegates from Asia Pacific regions and from other parts of the world.
- The Dialogue brings together security practitioners, including defense ministers, senior officials and non-governmental stakeholders, to discuss the most pressing security challenges in the Asia-Pacific, engage in bilateral discussions, and identify fresh approaches.
