China’s first atmospheric monitoring station in Antarctica begins operations

• China’s first atmospheric monitoring station in Antarctica started operations this week, a move aimed at helping observe changes on the southern continent and supporting the global response to climate change.
• Like the United States, China has been expanding its presence in Antarctica and in the Arctic to explore polar resources. 

Justice Murdu Nirupa Bindushini Fernando sworn in as the 48th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka

• Justice Murdu Nirupa Bindushini Fernando was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Sri Lanka before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat.
• She becomes the 48th Chief Justice of Sri Lanka and the second woman to hold this position. Justice Fernando succeeds Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, who recently retired. Her appointment received approval from the Constitutional Council. 

Indian Army commences the 2024 Harimau Shakti exercise with the Malaysian Army

• India and Malaysia commenced the bilateral Joint Military Exercise “Harimau Shakti” on 2 December 2024 at Bentong camp, Pahang district, Malaysia. In 2023, the Indian Army hosted the exercise at its Umroi Cantonment in Meghalaya, the 2024 edition of the annual bilateral exercise will be held from 2 to 15 December 2024.

Asia’s first water transport service ‘Uber Shikara’ launched on Dal Lake

• Uber has launched Asia’s first water transport service, “Uber Shikara,” in the picturesque Dal Lake of Jammu and Kashmir, combining technology with tradition to revolutionize tourist experiences.

Sindhu & Lakshya win the 2024 Syed Modi International Badminton tournament

• The Indian badminton ace PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen, respectively, won the women’s and men’s titles of the 2024 Syed Modi International badminton tournament. It was PV Sindhu's first BWF title since the 2022 Singapore Open title. 

Arjun Erigaisi Joins Elite 2800 ELO Club

• Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi has made history by becoming only the second Indian after Viswanathan Anand to breach the prestigious 2800 ELO rating barrier in classical chess. This remarkable achievement places the 21-year-old from Warangal, Telangana, in the global spotlight as he ranks 4th in the world with a rating of 2801, just below Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana.

Hydrogen teleported for the first time in human history

• Hydrogen has been teleported for the first time in human history using a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC). The LOHC makes it possible to transport hydrogen in liquid form over long distances. The process involves hydrogenating toluene in methylcyclohexane (MCH), which releases heat.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

• International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed every year on December 3 is an international observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. It has been observed with varying degrees of success around the planet.
• The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1992.
• The theme for the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future" 

Rajendra Prasad Jayanti

• Rajendra Prasad Jayanti is celebrated on December 3 every year to honour the birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India. In 2024, we honour the 140th birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India's first President.
• Born on 3 December 1884 in a Chitraguptavanshi Kayastha family in Ziradei, Bihar. His father, Mahadev Sahai,[3] was a scholar of both Sanskrit and Persian languages. His mother, Kamleshwari Devi, was a devout woman who would tell stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata to her son.

Internationally reputed speakers and panelists will discuss the future of the Global maritime scenario. US, UK, Germany, Spain, Asia Pacific Countries will participate in the discussions.
