INTERNATIONAL

South Korea, US, & Japan conducted First Trilateral Multi-Domain Exercise

  • South Korea, the US and Japan began their first trilateral multi-domain exercise. The three-day exercise, named Freedom Edge, got underway in South Korea’s southern island of Jeju. The exercise comes amid efforts to deepen security cooperation against threats from North Korea by its deepening ties with Russia. The exercise focused on ballistic missile defence, air defence, antisubmarine warfare, search and rescue, maritime interdiction and defensive cyber training.
  • The U.S, Japan and South Korea agreed to the exercise during the Camp David Summit in August 2023. The defense chiefs of the three countries announced the exercise on June 2 during the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. 

The World's Largest Naval Exercise 'RIMPAC' Started in Pearl Harbor, USA

  • Indian multi-role stealth frigate INS Shivalik, deployed in the South China Sea and North Pacific Ocean, is participating in the ongoing Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise at Pearl Harbor in the US. This is the world's largest naval exercise. INS Shivalik has reached this famous port of America after participating in the bilateral exercise 'JIMEX' between India and Japan.
  • The exercise, which began here on June 27, will continue till July 07 at Pearl Harbor, Pearl Harbor is a famous port and deep water naval base of the United States, 10-km north-west of Honolulu in Hawaii Island. It is also the headquarters of the US Pacific Fleet.

Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme launched by Maharashtra Government

  • In a move aimed at empowering women, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar announced the launch of the 'Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin' (CM My Beloved Sister) scheme.
  • This initiative, unveiled during the presentation of the state Budget at the Maharashtra Assembly, will provide all women aged between 21 and 60 years in the state with a monthly allowance of ₹1,500 starting from July 2024. 

CIPL to develop cloud-based file sharing, storage for Indian govt

  • IT solutions provider Corporate Infotech has bagged a project worth Rs 240 crore to develop a cloud-based document sharing and storage platform for government officials. The GovDrive project will serve nearly 50 lakh government officials across the country, Corporate Infotech Private Ltd (CIPL) said in a statement. 

BEL bags order from Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited AVNL

  • Bharat Electronics (BEL) said that it has signed a contract valued at Rs 3,172 crore with Armoured Vehicles Nigam (AVNL) on 28 June 2024 at AVNL Headquarters in Chennai.
  • The project entails the supply and installation of an advanced, indigenously designed and developed sighting and fire control system (FCS) for the upgrade of BMP 2/2K Tanks of the Indian Army, along with a comprehensive engineering support package.

India won the T20 World Cup 2024

  • India has once again lifted the trophy at the T20 World Cup and emerged victorious against South Africa, They beat South Africa by 7 runs in a nail-biting final in Barbados on June 29 (Saturday).

Sneh Rana created history as she scalped eight wickets against South Africa

  • In Women’s Cricket, Indian spinner Sneh Rana created history as she scalped eight wickets against South Africa on the third day of the one-off Test match at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Rana’s exceptional spell, along with Deepti Sharma’s two-wicket haul made the Proteas bowled out for 266 in 84.3 overs in their first innings. Sneh Rana also became the third woman with an eight-fer in Test cricket. 

Chris Silverwood Resigns as Sri Lanka’s Head Coach

  • Former Sri Lankan head coach Chris Silverwood has resigned from his role of men’s team coach citing personal reasons. In a statement, Silverwood said that he would want to spend quality time with his family and loved ones after his hectic job as the coach.
  • Silverwood took charge of the Sri Lankan team in April 2022 after moving ahead as the head coach of the England men’s team. Under his coaching, Sri Lanka won 8 Tests, 26 ODIs and 18 T20Is.

JD(U) Appoints RS MP Sanjay Jha As The Party National Executive President

  • Janata Dal United appointed Rajya Sabha MP and party leader Sanjay Jha as the party national executive president. Mr Jha was appointed at the party’s national executive meeting that featured JD(U) MPs, ministers, executive members, general secretaries, secretaries and state presidents.

NFSU & Haryana Govt. Sign An MoU To Establish A Centre Of Excellence In Panchkula

  • An MoU for setting up the Centre of Excellence for matters related to identified crime cases, was signed between National Forensic Science University (NFSU) and Haryana Government at Panchkula, The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Urban Development, Housing and Energy Minister Manohar Lal, Chief Minister Naib Singh and Haryana Assembly Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta.
