Ministry of Tourism Unveils Paryatan Mitra and Didi Initiative

  • On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Ministry of Tourism launched “Paryatan Mitra” and “Paryatan Didi,” a responsible tourism initiative aimed at improving tourist experiences across India. The initiative focuses on empowering local communities, especially women and youth, to serve as ambassadors and storytellers of their destinations, enhancing hospitality, cleanliness, and sustainability. 

Tata to manufacture 150 DRDO-developed WhAP armoured vehicles

  • In a significant achievement for the Make in India initiative, Tata has secured a contract to manufacture 150 Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) combat vehicles for the Moroccan defense forces.
  • According to defense officials, the contract was formalized between the Indian firm and Morocco, marking a pivotal step in enhancing military collaboration. The WhAP vehicles were developed by the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) in collaboration with Tata.

Dhanush, sole medal winner at Junior World Weightlifting Championship

  • 17-year-old Dhanush Loganathan was the sole Indian to win a medal at the IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships 2024. In last year's edition, held in Guadalajara, Mexico, India failed to win a single medal.
  • Dhanush Logabatahan won a bronze medal in the men’s 55 kg event. He lifted 231kg (107 snatch + 124 kg clean and jerk) to win the bronze medal. 

Gulveer Singh wins gold medal in men’s 5,000 meters race at World Athletics Continental Tour

  • Gulveer Singh, a 26-year-old Indian athlete, won the gold medal in the men’s 5,000 meters race at the World Athletics Continental Tour in Japan. He set a new national record with a time of 13 minutes and 11.82 seconds. This broke his own previous record of 13 minutes and 18.92 seconds.

Zomato co-founder Akriti Chopra resigns to pursue other interests

  • Online food ordering and delivery platform Zomato said its co-founder and Chief People Officer Akriti Chopra has resigned to pursue other interests.
  • Designated as senior management personnel, Chopra has tendered her resignation, with effect from September 27, 2024.

World Heart Day

  • World Heart Day is celebrated on September 29th every year, the day was created to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease (CVD), which includes heart disease and stroke, and to reduce its global impact. The idea for this annual event was conceived by Antoni Bayés de Luna, president of WHF from 1997–99. World Heart Day was originally (until 2011) observed on the last Sunday in September, with the first celebration taking place on September 24, 2000. Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death globally.

2nd India Sugar & Bio-Energy Conference held in New Delhi

  • Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & New & Renewable Energy, inaugurated the 2nd India Sugar & Bio-Energy Conference on 26 September 2024 in New Delhi.
  • During the inauguration ceremony, Deepak Ballani, the Director-General of the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), launched the ISMA Times magazine. The Magazine will provide information about the sugar industry and its future direction.

  • On the occasion of World Tourism Day on 27 September 2024, the Union Ministry of Tourism has announced the winners of the 2024 Best Tourism Villages Competition, The representatives of the winning villages and their state tourism officials were conferred awards at a function in New Delhi on September 27, 2024.
