Amit Shah Inaugurates New Passenger Terminal & a Cargo Gate at Petrapole Land Port

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated the newly constructed passenger terminal building and a cargo gate named ‘Maitri Dwar’ at the Land Port in Petrapole, on the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. The Petrapole Land Port, situated in Uttar 24 Parganas district, is the largest land port in South Asia and serves as a vital gateway for trade and commerce between the two countries. 

Bhubaneswar’s Public Transport System Shines at UMI 2024

  • Bhubaneswar was awarded the title of ‘City with the Best Public Transport System’ at the Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2024, The award was presented to Odisha’s Housing & Urban Development Minister, Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Manohar Lal.

Table Tennis: Indian duo of Yashaswini- Krittwika clinch women’s doubles title

  • In Table Tennis, India’s Yashaswini Ghorpade and Krittwika Roy clinched the women’s doubles title at the WTT Feeder Cagliari 2024 table tennis tournament in Italy, the star Indian duo defeated the South Korean pair of Yoo Siwoo and Kim Haeun 3-1 in the final to capture the crown. 

Squash: Akanksha Salunkhe Clinches Women’s Singles Title at 2nd International Women’s Open of Couzeix 2024

  • In squash, India’s Akanksha Salunkhe has clinched the women’s singles title at the 2nd International Women’s Open of Couzeix 2024 in France. Akanksha defeated Yasshmita Jadish Kumar of the USA in a commanding final last night, sweeping the match in straight sets, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6. 

Sukant Kadam Bags Gold & Silver at Japan Para Badminton International  

  • At the Japan Para Badminton International 2024, India’s star shuttler Sukant Kadam, won a gold medal in men’s singles and a silver medal in men’s doubles alongside his partner Dinesh Rajaiah.
  • In the singles final, Sukant faced off fellow Indian shuttler Tarun, dominating the match with a powerful 21-12, 21-10 victory.
  • In the doubles category, Sukant and Dinesh played against India’s Umesh Vikram Kumar and Surya Kant Yadav. In a closely contested third set, Sukant and Dinesh ultimately secured the silver, with the final score reading 21-5, 20-22, 21-16.

Deepak Agarwal Appointed as Managing Director of NAFED

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Deepak Agarwal, a 2000-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, as the new Managing Director (MD) of the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED). This appointment is set for a period of five years.

  • National Disaster Management Authority will celebrate its 20th Formation Day on 28 October, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the inaugural ceremony of the event. The theme of this year’s Formation Day is ‘Empowering Communities for Disaster Risk Reduction Through Awareness for Behavioral Change.

SBI Named Best Bank in India for 2024 by Global Finance Magazine

  • State Bank of India (SBI) has been awarded the title of Best Bank in India for 2024 by Global Finance Magazine during its 31st Annual Best Bank Awards, held in Washington, coinciding with the Annual Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank. 

Bibhab Talukdar Wins IUCN’s Top Conservation Leadership Award

  • Assam-based conservation scientist Bibhab Kumar Talukdar has been awarded the prestigious Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership by the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Abu Dhabi. This honor, awarded during the 5th IUCN SSC Leaders’ Meeting, acknowledges his groundbreaking contributions to species conservation, particularly for Asian rhinos, through both leadership and on-ground initiatives.
  • Bibhab Kumar Talukdar of Assam has received ‘The Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership by the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), He received the award during the ongoing 5th IUCN SSC Leaders’ Meeting in Abu Dhabi.
