Harini Amarasuriya appointed Sri Lanka's New Prime Minister

  • A 54-year-old first-time lawmaker and university professor who once walked the lawns and sat on the dusty benches of Hindu College in Delhi was on Tuesday named Sri Lanka’s 16th prime minister, an appointment that also bestowed the prestigious institution one of its tallest alumna.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurates three Param Rudra supercomputing systems

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated three Param Rudra supercomputers and High-performance Computing (HPC) systems for weather and climate research.
  • The supercomputers, developed indigenously under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) and at a cost of about Rs 130 crore, will be deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata to support high-performance scientific research and development.

Google Birth Anniversary

  • Google celebrates its birthday on September 27, which marks a significant milestone in the company's search indexing. Google was founded in California in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who met while studying computer science at Stanford University.

Brijendra Pratap Singh set to be the next CMD of NALCO

  • The Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB), a high-powered body constituted by the Government of India, has selected Brijendra Pratap Singh as the next Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Schedule 'A' Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). 

IndiGo appoints Isidro Porqueras as COO, succeeding Wolfgang Prock-Schauer

  • India’s largest airline IndiGo nominated Isidro Porqueras as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), subject to regulatory approvals. Porqueras will take over the baton from incumbent Wolfgang Prock-Schauer on November 1st this year.

Switzerland leads, India drops to 58th position at World Talent Ranking 2024

  • The IMD’s recent World Talent Ranking 2024 shows that Switzerland ranks first, followed by Singapore, India finds itself ranked 58th globally, with a talent score of 40.47, a decline from last year's 56th position and a significant drop from 52nd in 2022. The 2024 World Talent Ranking reveals a mixed performance, with India's overall rank falling as it struggles with readiness and investment development metrics.

Rotem Geva's new book titled - Delhi Reborn: Partition and Nation Building in India’s Capital

  • This book revisits one of the most dramatic episodes in its history, telling the story of how the city was remade by the twin events of partition and independence. Treating decolonization as a process that unfolded from the late 1930s into the mid-1950, Rotem Geva traces how India and Pakistan became increasingly territorialized in the imagination and practice of the city's residents, how violence and displacement were central to this process, and how tensions over belonging and citizenship lingered in the city and the nation.

  • Bank of Baroda, in collaboration with EaseMyTrip.com, has introduced the Bank of Baroda EaseMyTrip Co-branded Travel Debit Card, aiming to cater to frequent travelers and those with a penchant for entertainment and lifestyle. This initiative marks the first co-branded travel debit card launched by a public sector bank in India, reflecting the growing trend towards customized financial products. 

IDBI Bank launches OTS scheme for retail NPA borrowers to boost recovery

  • To boost its recovery from retail non-performing accounts, private sector lender IDBI Bank has launched a special scheme offering one-time settlement (OTS) provision to retail borrowers with principal outstanding in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 10 crore, subject to eligibility criteria.
