Yamandu Orsi elected the new President of Uruguay

  • A teacher of history, folk dancer and former mayor, the 57-year-old Yamandu Orsi has been elected as the new President of Uruguay. In the Presidential run-off election held on 24 November 2024, Yamandu Orsi secured 49.8 per cent of the votes, compared to Alvaro Delgado of the centre-right National Party, who secured 45.9 percent votes. 

Global Food Week opens in Abu Dhabi with a focus on international food security

  • Abu Dhabi launched its inaugural Global Food Week (GFW), setting the stage for a comprehensive exploration of worldwide food security challenges through November 28. The event, organized by ADNEC Group and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, brings together international stakeholders to address critical issues in agricultural sustainability and climate change. 

Global Media Congress 2024 launches with spectacular opening in Abu Dhabi

  • A dazzling opening ceremony marked the commencement of the third Global Media Congress on Tuesday (November 26) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, bringing together international media leaders, experts, and innovators for a three-day exploration of industry trends and opportunities.
  • Organized by ADNEC Group in partnership with the Emirates News Agency and the Government of the UAE, the congress operates under the theme “Shaping Future Media” and aims to create a roadmap for innovative media content that aligns with the UAE’s vision of a diverse and sustainable media economy.

Ministry of Tourism to organise International Tourism Mart in Kaziranga, Assam

  • The 12th edition of the International Tourism Mart (ITM) will be held in Kaziranga, Assam from 26th to 29th, November, 2024 in Kaziranga, Assam. International Tourism Mart is an annual event organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, designed to highlight the tourism potential of the North Eastern region for both domestic and international audiences. 

Union Cabinet launched the National Mission on Natural Farming - NMNF

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the launch of the National Mission on Natural Farming and allocated ₹2,481 crore for the remainder of the period covered by the 15th Finance Commission, that is, till the end of the financial year 2025-26. The share of the government of India is ₹1,584 crore and that of the states is ₹897 crore. It aims to promote natural farming in mission mode across the country as a standalone Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare.

TakeMe2Space set to launch India's first AI laboratory in space

  • TakeMe2Space, a space technology firm based in Hyderabad, has announced the forthcoming launch of MOI-TD (My Orbital Infrastructure - Technology Demonstrator), India's first AI lab in space, The mission will demonstrate real-time data processing in orbit, making space research more affordable and accessible. The launch is scheduled for mid-December 2024 aboard ISRO's PSLV C60 launch vehicle.

World’s oldest man dies aged 112 in England

  • John Tinniswood, an Englishman born the same year the Titanic sank and who survived two world wars and two global pandemics, has died aged 112, Guinness World Records said on Tuesday, months after it recognised him as the world’s oldest man. 

Essar Group founder Shashikant Ruia passes away at 81,

  • Shashikant Ruia, patriarch of the billionaire Ruia family and co-founder of the Essar Group of companies, passed away He was 81.

Times Higher Education’s Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, KIIT ranks 4th in India

  • KIIT-DU has secured an impressive 4th position in India in the inaugural Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025, which recognizes universities excelling in interdisciplinary scientific research. Notably, only four Indian universities—both private and public—feature among the top 100 universities globally, and KIIT is one of them, ranking 92nd worldwide.
