Amit Shah inaugurated the corporate office of the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation

• Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the corporate office of the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC) in Mumbai today (January 24). He also released the annual calendar of activities for the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, launched training programs for 10,000 newly formed multipurpose cooperative societies across the country, and introduced a ranking framework for primary cooperative societies. 

Amit Shah inaugurates Hindu Adhyatmik Aur Seva Mela

• Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Hindu Adhyatmik Aur Seva Mela in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Gujarat Chief Minister, Shri Bhupendra Patel.

 India to Host FIDE Chess World Cup 2025

• India is set to host the prestigious FIDE Chess World Cup 2025, marking a significant milestone for the country as it takes on the role of the host for its first major international chess tournament since the 2022 Chennai Chess Olympiad.

Neeraj Parakh Appointed as CEO and Executive Director of Reliance Power

• Reliance Power Limited has appointed Neeraj Parakh as its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 20, 2025, for a tenure of three years, Parakh brings over 29 years of professional experience, with more than 20 years dedicated to the Reliance Group. He began his tenure in June 2004 as an Additional Manager in the Central Technical Services team at Reliance Infrastructure.

National Girl Child Day: India

• The National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24. It was initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Government of India, to spread public awareness about inequities that girls face in Indian society.

International Day of Education

• International Day of Education is an annual international observance day held on January 24 and is dedicated to education. In 2018, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution proclaiming January 24 as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for bringing global peace and sustainable development.
• The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has decided to dedicate International Education Day 2025 (Friday 24 January) to the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence.

India ranked 4th on the Global Firepower Index 2025

• India has been ranked as having the 4th most powerful military in the world after the United States of America, Russia and China by the Global Firepower Index 2025.
• Bhutan was ranked at the bottom of the index at 145th position. Pakistan which was ranked 9th in 2024 dropped to 12th position in the 2025 ranking.

Brand Finance Global 500 Report for 2025

• In the latest Brand Finance Global 500 report for 2025, Tata Group has solidified its status as India’s most valuable brand, achieving a brand value of $31.6 billion—a 10% increase from the previous year. This marks the first time an Indian brand has surpassed the $30 billion threshold. Globally, Apple continues to dominate with a brand value of $574.5 billion, maintaining its lead over competitors.
