NITI Aayog join hands with WIPO to develop programs for countries in the global south

  • The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at NITI Aayog and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on July 22, joined hands towards building joint innovation programmes in the Global South.
  • This partnership will take the best of India’s innovation models to countries that are on similar development trajectories, and will enhance understanding and awareness about IPR right from the school level and unlock the innovation potential of the world as well as foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

Oscar Piastri win his first Formula one title GP

  • The Australian driver Oscar Piastri won his first Formula One title by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix on 21 July 2204. The Hungarian Grand Prix was held at Hungaroring racing track in the small Hungarian town of Mogyoród on 21 July 2024.
  • Oscar Piastri of team McLaren finished first, and his teammate Lando Norris came second. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes came in third. 

APPOINTMENS & RESIGNATIONS

KV Subramanian appointed MD & CEO of Federal Bank

  • Krishnan Venkat Subramanian has been appointed as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Federal Bank with effect from September 23, 2024. The current MD Shyam Srinivasan will step down from the position after a 14 year stint at the top. The Reserve Bank of India has approved Manian’s appointment. 

Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak elected new president of ICMAI for 2024-25

  • Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak has been elected unanimously as the new President of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) for the 2024-25 period. He will succeed Ashwin Dalwadi, who was the president for the 2023-24 period, TCA Srinivasa Prasad has been elected as the vice president of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India for 2024-25.
  • The election to elect the new president and vice president of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India for 2024-25 was held on 22 July 2024 in New Delhi. 

IMPORTANT DAYS

National Broadcasting Day: India

  • National Broadcasting Day is observed on July 23 every year in India. The day aims to remind us about the impact of radio on our lives. This day also marks the start of organised radio broadcasts in the country by All India Radio.
  • On July 23, 1927, the India Broadcasting Company came into existence and became the first radio company in India. However, the company faced liquidation in less than three years, soon after this, All India Radio (AIR) came into being in April 1930 as the Indian Broadcasting Service. On June 8, it was rebranded as All India Radio. 

Shiksha Saptah Celebrating 4 Years of NEP

  • The Department of School Education and Literacy is observing Shiksha Saptah from July 22 to July 28, 2024, to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • This week-long event focuses on promoting collaboration and highlighting the educational reforms introduced by NEP 2020.

AAI Signed MoU with Rajasthan Government for Kota greenfield airport

  • The Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Urban Development Department, the Government of Rajasthan, and the Civil Aviation Department signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on July 19, 2024, for the development of the Kota Greenfield airport in 

UPL University Signs MoU with ISRO for advance research in chemical sciences

  • UPL University of Sustainable Technology, an initiative by UPL Group, and Space Application Centre (SAC) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance research and innovation in chemical sciences.
  • This collaboration is part of UPL’s broader strategy to enhance academic excellence and foster global recognition. 

AWARDS & RECOGNITION

Abhinav Bindra Awarded Prestigious Olympic Order by IOC; Becomes First Indian To Receive Award

  • The International Olympic Committee Executive Board has decided to award India’s first individual Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra with the Olympic Order for his outstanding services to the Olympic Movement. The award will be given during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris on 10th of August 2024. The Olympic Order is the highest award of the IOC, given for distinguished contributions to the Olympic Movement.

IndusInd Bank Partners With Inspire Institute Of Sport

  • IndusInd Bank has announced the launch of 'Wrestle for Glory' program, a CSR initiative of the Bank, continuing the longstanding collaboration with the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS), a high performance Olympic training facility headquartered in Vijayanagar, Bellary.
