India wins 3rd SABA Women’s Championship 2025 title

  • The Indian senior women's basketball team won the 3rd SABA Women Championship 2025, defeating Maldives 107-32 in the final. This was the first time that the Indian team was participating in the SABA Women’s Championship.
  • The 3rd SABA Women’s Championship was a qualifier tournament for level 2 of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup, with this victory, the Indian women's team has qualified for level 2 of the FIBA Women's Asia Cup to be held in China from 13-20 July 2025. 

Dalibor wins singles title in Maha Open ATP

  • Dalibor Svrcina won the Maha Open ATP Challenger 100 Men's Tennis title, He defeated Brandon Holt of the USA by 7-6 (3), 6-1 in the final at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Stadium.
  • The Maha Open ATP Challenger 100 Men's Tennis Championship was organized by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), in association with the Department of Sports and Youth Services Govt of Maharashtra.

Hollywood Legend Gene Hackman Passes Away

  • Gene Hackman, an Oscar-winning actor renowned for his versatility, was found dead at the age of 95 alongside his wife at their home. Hackman was one of Hollywood’s most respected and honoured performers, known for portraying both reluctant heroes and complex villains.

SBI Life Appoints Dorababu Daparti as Deputy CEO

  • SBI Life Insurance Company has appointed Dorababu Daparti as its Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective February 24, 2025. The decision, based on the Nomination and Remuneration Committee’s recommendation, strengthens SBI Life’s leadership with an experienced professional. Daparti brings over 29 years of experience in the financial sector, having served in key leadership roles at State Bank of India (SBI), including as CEO of SBI Maldives operations. 

Tuhin Kanta Pandey Appointed as 11th SEBI Chairperson

  • The Union government has appointed Finance and Revenue Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, is for a term of three years, effective from 1 March 2025.

World Civil Defence Day

  • World Civil Defence Day, observed annually on March 1st, aims to raise awareness about civil protection, disaster preparedness, and emergency response. Established by the International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO), this day highlights the crucial role of civil defence organizations in safeguarding communities against natural and man-made disasters.
  • Theme - The 2025 theme, “Civil Defence, Guarantee of Security for the Population,” emphasizes the need for robust disaster management strategies, community participation, and proactive preparedness measures to protect lives and property. 

Zero Discrimination Day

  • Zero Discrimination Day, observed annually on March 1, promotes the right of every individual to live with dignity and equality, free from discrimination. Initiated by UNAIDS in 2014, this day highlights the importance of inclusion, compassion, and peace while addressing various forms of discrimination, particularly against marginalized communities.
  • Theme - The 2025 theme is We Stand Together and it underscores the role of community-led initiatives in sustaining the HIV response and global health efforts.

 Civil Accounts Day

  • Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman preside over the celebrations for the 49th Civil Accounts Day to mark the Foundation Day of the Indian Civil Accounts Service, in New Delhi today (March 1).
  • A compendium on the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), titled "Digitalisation of Public Financial Management in India: The Transformative Decade (2014-24)," was also be released during the session.

SIDBI Signs MoU with Tata Capital Limited to Strengthen MSME Financing

  • The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Capital Limited (TCL) to enhance financing opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). 

National Summit on Public Health Care kicks off in Puri

  • Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated the 9th National Summit on Good & Replicable Practices and Innovation in the Public Healthcare System in Puri, Odisha on 28th February 2025.
  • The two-day conference will provide the states and Union Territories a platform to showcase their best practices and innovations for addressing public health challenges.

 International Radiobiology Conference on Space Radiation, Human Space Missions

  • Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS), the Delhi-based laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), hosted the International Radio Biology Conference on Biological Effects of Space Radiation, Heavy Ions and Human Space Missions - Mechanisms & Biomedical Countermeasures at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi from 27th February 2025 to 1st March 2025.

  • The Government of India has honoured Anant Ambani's Vantara with the prestigious 'Prani Mitra' National Award in the 'Corporate' category, recognising its outstanding contributions to animal welfare. 

Raj Kamal Jha won the Banaras Lit Fest Award

  • The Indian Express Chief Editor and Author Raj Kamal Jha won the 'Banaras Lit Fest Award' in 'Ruskin Bond Fiction Book Award Category' for his Novel “The Patient in Bed Number 12′ at Banaras Lit Fest Book Awards in Delhi.
