England's Brydon Carse banned for three months for betting violations
- England pacer Brydon Carse has been banned for three months from all forms of cricket on Friday, May 31. He placed bets on cricket matches between 2017 and 2019.
- The 28-year-old, who was called into England's 50-over World Cup squad six months ago, was given a 16-month sanction -- 13 months of which have been suspended -- following an anti-corruption investigation by the English game's Cricket Regulator.

Major General Harsh Chhibber Takes Over as Commandant of College of Defence Management
- Major General Harsh Chhibber took over as the Commandant, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad on 31 May 24 from Rear Admiral Sanjay Datt. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Major General Harsh Chhibber was commissioned into the Army Service Corps in December 1988.
Dr Emmanuelle Soubeyran elected as new Director General of WOAH
- Emmanuelle Soubeyran has been elected as the new Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) for the 2024-2029 term. She was elected to this position on May 28 at the World Assembly of Delegates, which was held in Paris, and extends her thanks to all the member countries and territories for their show of confidence.

- The Global Day of Parents is observed on June 1 every year. The United Nations General Assembly established this day to express international awareness about the importance of parenthood and to promote the healthy development of children by their parents.
- On September 17, 2012, the United Nations declared June 1 as the Global Day of Parents, with the first celebration occurring in 2013, marking a significant milestone in recognizing parents' roles worldwide.

12-Year-Old Indian-American Wins National Spelling Bee Contest In US
- Bruhat Soma, a 12-year-old Indian-American seventh-grade student from Florida, has won the Scripps National Spelling Bee after he spelt 29 words correctly in the tiebreaker, maintaining the dominance of the children from the small ethnic community in the prestigious competition.
- Bruhat emerged victorious in the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday, earning more than $50,000 in cash and other prizes.
NIMHANS bags the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion for 2024 by WHO
- National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has been awarded with the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion for 2024 by the World Health Organization (WHO).
- The Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion, established by WHO in 2019, recognizes individuals, institutions and/or governmental or non-governmental organizations that have demonstrated remarkable contributions to health promotion.

Capital Small Finance Bank, ICICI Lombard enter into bancassurance tie-up
- Capital Small Finance Bank (CSFB), a small finance bank, has forged a bancassurance tie-up with ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Ltd.(ICICI Lombard), a private general insurer.
- Through this collaboration, CSFB will leverage its network and customer base to distribute ICICI Lombard’s suite of general insurance products, including health, motor, home, travel and rural insurance. Currently, CSFB has 177 branches spread over 5 States and 1 Union Territory.
RBI imposes monetary penalty on SBM Bank (India)
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 88.70 lakh on SBM Bank (India) for non-compliance with certain regulatory norms. This includes licensing conditions and directives related to the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS).
- The RBI penalized SBM Bank for not adhering to the licensing conditions imposed by the central bank. The bank was found to have engaged business correspondents to establish account-based relationships with customers from certain regions, despite the RBI rejecting this request.
- SBM Bank processed transactions under the LRS, even after the RBI directed the bank to halt such activities immediately. This non-compliance led to the imposition of the monetary penalty.
RBI imposes business restriction on Edelweiss group's EARCL, ECL Finance
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) barred the Edelweiss group’s asset reconstruction company from acquiring financial assets and security receipts (SRs), and also its non-banking financial arm from undertaking any structured transaction for wholesale exposure, other than repayment and/ or closure of accounts in its normal course of business.
- The Edelweiss Asset Reconstruction Company Limited (EARCL) has also been barred from reorganising the existing SRs into senior and subordinate tranches.
