India’s first glass bridge over the sea inaugurated in Kanyakumari

  • In Tamil Nadu, the iconic tourist destination Kanyakumari had added another jewel to its crown. India’s first glass bridge over sea was inaugurated here, Tamil Nadu Chief minister MK Stalin unveiled the classic glass bridge that connects the 133 ft tall Saint Tiruvalluvar statue and the Vivekananda rock Memorial. 

Govt launches ONOS to provide seamless access to digital knowledge

  • The Government has launched the “One Nation, One Subscription” scheme starting today (January 1). This initiative aims to provide seamless access to a wide range of digital knowledge resources, including research papers, journals, and academic content, under a single subscription platform. 

Ministry of Defence declares 2025 as the Year of Reforms

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh chaired a meeting with all the Secretaries of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on the eve of the New Year to review the progress on various schemes, projects, reforms and the way ahead. In order to give impetus to the ongoing and future reforms, it was unanimously decided to observe 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms’ in the MoD.

Cricket Australia names Bumrah as captain in their Team of the Year

  • Cricket Australia has named India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the captain of the Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is the other Indian in the playing XI, which features cricketers from six countries, Wicket-keeper-batter Alex Carey and pacer Josh Hazlewood are the two Australians included in the multinational XI. 

33rd Santosh Trophy for Bengal as they beat Kerala in the final

  • The most successful team in the history of the Santosh Trophy, West Bengal added one more to its collection by defeating Kerala in the final of the 78th edition of the Santosh Trophy. It was the 33rd Santosh Trophy for the Bengal team.
  • The final of the 78th edition of the Santosh Trophy 2024-25 was played at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana on 31st December 2024.

Dr. Sandip Shah has been appointed as Chairperson of NAB

  • Dr Sandip Shah, joint MD of city-based Neuberg Diagnostics, is appointed as the chairperson of the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), the body providing accreditation to pathological and testing laboratories in India.

 EaseMyTrip CEO Nishant Pitti resigns

  • Online travel tech aggregator EaseMyTrip Co-Founder and CEO Nishant Pitti has resigned on account of personal reasons.
  • His brother and Co-Founder Rikant Pittie, who is currently the company's Executive Director, has been appointed as the new CEO.

Sai Paranjpye to be honoured with Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Veteran director-writer Sai Paranjpye, known for slice-of-life films such as "Sparsh", "Chashme Buddoor", "Katha", and "Saaz", will receive the Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award at the Ajanta-Ellora International Film Festival (AIFF) 2025.
