Glasgow to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games after Victoria backs off

  • Glasgow, Scotland's capital, has agreed to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games after the original host, Victoria of Australia, declined due to the rising cost. Glasgow has previously successfully hosted the 2012 Commonwealth Games. 

SIDM Signs Two MoUs on Defence Industry Cooperation with UAE

  • In a landmark move to enhance defence cooperation, the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) signed two Memorandums of Understanding on Defence Industry Cooperation with the Emirates Defence Companies Council (EDCC) and EDGE Group UAE. 

India and EU agree to deepen cooperation in Sustainable Water Management

  • India and the European Union agreed to enhance cooperation in sustainable water management and both sides committed to advance cooperation in river basin management, fostering innovation and technology transfer while promoting sustainable investments.

Eknath Shinde inaugurates Maharashtra's first semiconductor Plant

  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated the state’s first semiconductor manufacturing OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test plants) plant in Navi Mumbai which will reduce the country’s reliance on imported semiconductor chips. 

Piyush Goyal unveils AI and ML-based Trademark Search Technology & IP Saarthi Chatbot

  • Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal unveiled the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) based Trademark Search Technology and IP Saarthi Chatbot in New Delhi. 

Mohana Singh becomes India’s 1st woman Tejas fighter pilot

  • Squadron Leader Mohana Singh has become India’s first woman Tejas fighter pilot, with the Indian Air Force assigning her to the No. 18 ‘Flying Bullets’ Squadron based at Naliya in Gujarat, Singh, one of India’s first women fighter pilots, was previously serving in the No. 3 ‘Cobras’ Squadron at the Nal fighter base near Bikaner and flying the MiG-21 Bison aircraft. 

Mega event "World Food India 2024" begins in New Delhi

  • The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is set to host World Food India 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi covering a vast area of 70,000 square meters. This highly anticipated global event from 19-22 September, 2024 will see participation from over 90 countries, 26 Indian States and Union Territories, and 18 Central Ministries and allied government bodies. 

Central Government approves Bio-RIDE Scheme of the DBT

  • The central government has approved the launch of the ‘Biotechnology Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (Bio-RIDE)’ scheme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Union Ministry of Science and Technology. 

Center approves PMJUGA scheme for holistic Tribal Development

  • The Union Cabinet has approved a new scheme, Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA), to improve the socio-economic condition of the country's tribal majority villages and aspirational districts. The scheme seeks to utilise the existing central government scheme to achieve the objectives of the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA) scheme.
