India launches ‘Operation Sadbhav’ to aid flood-hit Laos

  • The Government has initiated Operation Sadbhav to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Laos, following the devastating floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi. The natural disaster has affected nearly 40,000 people, inflicting widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and agricultural lands in northern Laos.

Jitan Ram Manjhi inaugurated Centre for Rural Enterprise Acceleration through Technology at Leh

  • Union Minister for MSME, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, inaugurated the Centre for Rural Enterprise Acceleration through Technology (CREATE) at Leh via virtual mode. The event was attended by various dignitaries including the Minister of State for MSME, the Lieutenant Governor of UT-Ladakh, the Chairman of KVIC, and other officials from the Ministry of MSME, UT-Ladakh, KVIC, and MGIRI, along with around 200 local artisans. 

PM Modi inaugurates Tuticorin International Container Terminal

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Tuticorin International Container Terminal in Tamil Nadu via video message. Describing the terminal as a “new star of India’s marine infrastructure,” PM Modi emphasized its significance in enhancing the capacity of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port and supporting India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. 

President Droupadi Murmu to inaugurate 8th India Water Week 2024

  • The 8th India Water Week 2024 which start from September 17 in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the event at Bharat Mandapam, During the four-day event, around four thousand delegates including two hundred foreign delegates from 40 countries will participate. More than one hundred exhibitors and startups will showcase their ideas in the water sector during the exhibition. 

LIC signes contract with Infosys to build Next-Gen platform

  • State-owned Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has signed up tech giant Infosys to develop a next-generation digital platform that will act as the foundation for new high-value business applications, such as customer and sales super apps, portals, and digital branches. The financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed. 

NPS Vatsalya Scheme to be Launch on September 18, 2024

  • The NPS Vatsalya Scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, will be launched by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on September 18, 2024, in New Delhi. This initiative allows parents to invest in pension accounts for their children with flexible contributions starting at Rs. 1,000 annually, offering long-term wealth building through compounding. 

PM Narendra Modi flagged off the Durg-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off the Durg-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express train from Raipur railway station, The new express train is set to revolutionize travel between the two cities, reducing the journey time from the previous 11-12 hours to a mere 8 hours.

  • World Patient Safety Day is observed annually on 17 September, It aims to raise global awareness about patient safety and call for solidarity and united action by all countries and international partners to reduce patient harm.

2nd Naval Commanders’ Conference to Begin in New Delhi

  • The second edition of the Naval Commanders’ Conference will begin in New Delhi on September 17, The Conference is the apex-level biannual event facilitating deliberations on significant strategic, operational and administrative issues between the Naval Commanders. The Defence Ministry said the four-day conference will commence with the inaugural address by the Chief of Naval Staff.
