Paetongtarn Shinawatra Elected Thailand’s new Prime Minister
- Thailand’s Parliament on August 16, elected Paetongtarn Shinawatra as their youngest Prime Minister, days after her father Thaksin Shinawatra was removed by a court order, Paetongtarn, 37, is the youngest child of billionaire Thaksin, 75, founder of the Pheu Thai party, with which Srettha was also affiliated.
- Paetongtarn was elected easily as her party and its allies hold 314 out of 493 seats in parliament, and she required the vote of at least half of the current legislators to become prime minister.
Germany Joins United Nations Command in South Korea
- Germany joined the U.S.-led United Nations Command (UNC) in South Korea becoming the 18th nation in a group that helps police the heavily fortified border with North Korea and has committed to defend the South in the event of a war.

17th International Earth Sciences Olympiad
- A team of Indian students has secured three gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the 17th International Earth Sciences Olympiad held in China’s Beijing. The event took place from 8th to 16th August.
- The four-member Indian team comprising students from Gujarat, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan have won these medals in three different categories including Earth System Project, and International Team Filed Investigation.

Salee Sukumaran Nair Appointed as MD & CEO of Tamilnad Mercantile Bank
- Private sector lender Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) on Friday (August 16) said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Salee Sukumaran Nair as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

- An MoU was signed between the public broadcaster Prasar Bharati and Sansad Television in Parliament for Collaborations and Content Sharing, The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Sansad TV CEO Rajit Punhani and Prasar Bharati CEO Gaurav Dwivedi, as well as senior officials of both organizations.
International conference on Law and Technology held in Kerala
- An international conference on “Law and Technology: Sustainable, Transport, Tourism and Technological Innovations” organised by the Commonwealth Legal Education Association will be inaugurated jointly by Chief Justice of India Dr D Y Chandrachud and the Chief Justice of Seychelles Justice Roney Govinden at Kumarakom in Kottayam district, Kerala.
