Port Blair to be renamed as - Sri Vijaya Puram

  • The government has decided to rename Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Sri Vijaya Puram. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, the government took the decision to free the nation from the colonial imprints. He said, Sri Vijaya Puram symbolises the victory achieved in the country’s freedom struggle. 

Zomato teams up with IRCTC to offer food delivery service on trains

  • Food aggregating platform Zomato announced its collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for Food Delivery in Trains, Through ‘Zomato - Food Delivery in Trains’, customers can order meals, whether they’re at the station or in their train compartment. The convenience extends to every passenger. 

Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia launches the ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’ website

  • Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Hon'ble Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), launched the official website Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, A step towards celebrating the rich cultural and economic heritage of Northeast India,
  • The launch event took place at Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi, underscoring the government's commitment to promoting the Northeast's vast potential on a national and global stage. 

Piyush Goyal unveils two portals to resolve exporters' issues

  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal launched two digital initiatives to assist exporters. The Jan-Sunwai Portal provides necessary information and direct communication with officials, and the ERP portal of ECGC offers online services like claims and credit support.

  • Hindi Day is celebrated in India to commemorate the date 14 September 1949 on which a compromise was reached—during the drafting of the Constitution of India—on the languages that were to have official status in the Republic of India.

India to Join the Quad leaders Summit in Wilmington, US

  • US President Joe Biden will host the fourth Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21, the White House announced on Thursday (local time). President Joe Biden said he looks forward to welcoming the Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the Prime Minister of Japan, Kishida Fumio, to the meeting. 

7th National Security Strategies Conference 2024 begin in New Delhi

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 7th National Security Strategies Conference 2024 in New Delhi. During the two-day conference, the government will outline a roadmap to address emerging national security challenges with the top police leadership from states, Union Territories, Central Armed Police Forces, and Central Police Organisations. 

India participates in BRICS Literature Forum 2024 in Russia

  • The BRICS Literature Forum 2024 began in Kazan, Russia, bringing together prominent writers, poets, philosophers, artists, and scholars from the BRICS nations. The forum was inaugurated by the Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, under the theme, “World Literature in the New Reality: Dialogue of Traditions, National Values, and Cultures.”

  • A number of Indian companies were featured on TIME's World's Best Companies of 2024 list among which are HCLTech, Infosys, Wipro, the Adani Group and Reliance Industries. The list consists of 1000 companies among which 22 this year are Indianborn, Apple inc tops the list with a score of 97.75 points followed by Accenture with 97.70 points and so on,

RBI imposes penalty on BNP Paribas and 3 others for compliance lapses

  • The Reserve Bank of India it has imposed a penalty of Rs 31.8 lakh on BNP Paribas (the bank) for certain deficiencies in statutory and regulatory compliance.
  • The central bank has also imposed penalties on Hewlett Packard Financial Services (India), SMFG India Credit Company, and Muthoot Vehicle & Asset Finance for non-compliance with certain norms.
