India ships first batch of Akash Weapon system to Armenia

  • In a significant milestone for the indigenous Indian defence sector, the first batch of the indigenously developed surface-to-air missile system Akash, was shipped to Armenia. The indigenously developed and manufactured Akash system is part of a deal under which India is to supply 15 Akash systems to Armenia, this is the second missile system to be exported from India after India sold the supersonic Brahmos cruise missile to the Philippines. 

India-Indonesia concludes 9th edition of the Garuda Shakti exercise

  • The 9th edition of the India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise Garuda Shakti was conducted on November 12 at Mokopassus in Cijantung, Indonesia, with the closing ceremony attended by senior military officials from both countries.
  • Sandeep Chakravorty, India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Captain Shiv Kumar, Defence Attaché at the Indian Embassy, and Colonel Inf J. S. Aling of the Indonesian Army were present at the event.

43rd IITF begin on Nov 14 with the theme ‘Viksit Bharat in 2047’  

  • The 43rd Edition of the India International Trade Fair (IITF) begins at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today (November 14), The theme of this year’s fair is Viksit Bharat in 2047.
  • NITI Aayog Member Dr. V K Paul will inaugurate the Health and Family Welfare Ministry’s Health Pavilion at the Trade Fair This year’s pavilion is centred around the theme of ‘One Health’. The comprehensive approach emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and plant. 

16th India Game Developer Conference Begins in Hyderabad

  • All is set for the 16th edition of the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC) begins in Hyderabad today, (November 13). The three-day conference is expected to attract about 20 thousand attendees. Organized by the Game Developer Association of India (GDAI), the 16th edition of IGDC is expected to highlight the rapid growth of India’s gaming and interactive entertainment sector. 

Indian Navy to conduct 4th Coastal Defence Exercise ‘Sea-Vigil-24’ from 21st to 22nd November 

  • The Indian Navy will conduct the 4th edition of the Coastal Defence Exercise ‘Sea-Vigil-24’ from the 21st to the 22nd of this month (November). The two-day exercise will span both in terms of geographical reach and the magnitude of participation, involving six ministries and 21 organizations and agencies. 

Prime Minister Modi launched AIIMS Darbhanga

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Bihar today (Wednesday) to lay the foundation stone for AIIMS Darbhanga as well as multiple development projects worth Rs 12,100 crore across the state, AIIMS Darbhanga, which is worth more than Rs 1,260 crore will comprise a super-specialty hospital/AYUSH block, medical college, nursing college, night shelter, and residential facilities, among others.

Mumbai wins its second Senior Women’s T20 Trophy

  • Humaira Kazi led her Mumbai team to thier second Senior Women’s T20 trophy title by beating Bengal in the final by 10 wickets. The final of the 16th Senior Women’s T20 trophy was played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, Maharastra on 12 November 2024.

  • World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes mellitus and is held on 14 November each year. WDD is led by the International Diabetes Federation and each World Diabetes Day focuses on a theme related to diabetes.
  • Theme - This year's theme, “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps,” emphasises our dedication to lowering diabetes risks and ensuring that everyone diagnosed with diabetes has access to fair, comprehensive, affordable, and high-quality treatment and care. 

Children’s Day / Bal Diwas

  • Children’s Day / Bal Diwas in India is a special occasion celebrated every year on November 14th. This date was chosen to honour the birthday of India’s first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, a leader who deeply cherished children and believed in their potential to shape the nation’s future. This day, known as Bal Diwas, is dedicated to raising awareness about children’s rights and well-being. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Prayagraj. in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

British writer Samantha Harvey wins Booker Prize for space story Orbital

  • Britain’s Samantha Harvey won the 2024 Booker Prize for her novel ‘Orbital’, a story about a single day aboard the International Space Station which she wrote during COVID-19 lockdowns.
  • The novel, Harvey’s Fifth, was the top-selling book on the shortlist of six finalists and has sold more copies than the past three Booker Prize winners combined, as readers lapped up her depiction of Earth’s beauty as seen from space.
