Adani Defense and EDGE Group Forge Global Defence Partnership

  • Adani Defense & Aerospace has signed a cooperation agreement with EDGE Group, one of the leading advanced technology and defense groups in the UAE, to establish a global platform leveraging the defense and aerospace capabilities, Adani Aerospace is an arm of Adani Enterprises.
  • The agreement includes evaluating cooperation across core product domains, including missiles and weapons covering airborne, surface, infantry, ammunition, and air defense products, platforms & systems covering unmanned aerial systems (UAS), loitering munitions, counter drone systems, unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), as well as electronic warfare (EW) and cyber technologies. 

Tata Communications Secures Five-Year Broadcasting Deal with World Athletics

  • Tata Communications has announced a five-year global host broadcasting services deal covering the World Athletics Series of events.
  • From 2025, Tata Communications will be a key strategic supplier for World Athletics, with a view to elevating innovation and audience engagement to new heights.
  • Through this partnership, Tata Communications will empower World Athletics to captivate a global fan base and forge lasting connections with the sport by amplifying the excitement and drama of live global athletics competitions.

Divya Deshmukh Wins World Junior Girls’ Chess Championship

  • India’s Divya Deshmukh won the World Junior Girls’ Chess Championship after beating Bulgaria’s Beloslava Krasteva in the final round at the Gift City Club in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Top-seeded Divya beat Krasteva in the 10th round with just 26 moves to claim her maiden U-20 title. She finished unbeaten in the championship by winning nine of her games while drawing the other two. 

Shruti Vora becomes first Indian to win 3 star GP in dressage, closes in on Paris dream

  • Shruti Vora has created history by becoming the first Indian to win a three-star Grand Prix equestrian event, achieving the feat when she won at the FEI Dressage World Cup held in Lipica, Slovenia.
  • Astride Magnanimous, Vora, 53, scored 67.761% in the highly technical discipline to earn her first Minimum Eligibility Requirement (MER) point for this year’s Paris Olympics.

Legendary Sarod Maestro Pandit Rajeev Taranath Passes Away At 91

  • Sarod maestro of international repute Rajeev Taranath has passed away in Mysuru on Tuesday (11th June 2024) in Karnataka after a prolonged illness. He was 91.
  • Born in Bangalore on 17 October 1932. He received his initial training in vocal music from his father Pandit Taranath. He gave his first public vocal performance when he was nine years old. Rajeev was singing for the All India Radio before he was twenty.

Former IAS officer P K Mishra to continue as Principal Secretary to PM Modi

  • Former IAS officer P K Mishra has been re-appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Personnel Ministry order said His appointment will come into effect from June 10, 2024.
  • Principal secretary is a post in state governments and the central government of India. The position holder is generally a senior Indian Administrative Service officer or other senior civil servants. Principal secretaries generally are the administrative heads of departments in a state government. They can also be deputed to central government in the post of a Joint secretary.

World Blood Donor Day

  • World Blood Donor Day is celebrated annually on June 14th. This year, 2024, marks a special milestone – the 20th anniversary of recognizing voluntary blood donors for their life-saving contributions.
  • The event was organized for the first time in 2004, by four core international organizations: the World Health Organization, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations (IFBDO) and the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts.
  • The theme for 2024 is "20 years of celebrating giving: thank you, blood donors!" This theme highlights how important it is to express gratitude to blood donors for their altruistic deeds over the previous 20 years.

IGNCA Signs MoU with Sansad TV

  • Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) and Sansad TV signed an MoU / agreement to make Indian art and culture more accessible to the people. Under this initiative, programmes produced by IGNCA will be telecast on Sansad TV.
  • The MoU was signed by Member Secretary Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi on behalf of IGNCA and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Rajat Punhani on behalf of Sansad TV. On this occasion, Dr. Joshi said that it is a matter of great happiness that this agreement has been reached between Sansad TV and IGNCA. He said that through this initiative many collaborative programs can be made.

Visakhapatnam Port Achieves 18th position in the World Bank’s CPPI

  • The Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has secured the 18th position in the World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index (CPPI), marking a significant milestone for India’s maritime industry, Secretary of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority Sri T. Venu Gopal announced that the Port breaks into the 18th position at the rankings in World Bank’s Container Port Performance Index.
  • The CPPI focuses exclusively on quayside performance measuring the operational efficiency of how ports receive, and handle Container Ships. This measure is critically important for the customer to decide which port/terminal to choose over other options. Port efficiency and Ship Turnaround Time at the port of call are important metrics for operators. 

BANKING AND ECONOMY

FIU imposes over Rs 1.66 crore fine on Axis Bank for failing to detect fraud NSG account 

  • The Financial Intelligence Unit has slapped a fine of more than Rs 1.66 crore on Axis Bank for failing to put in place a mechanism to detect and report suspicious transactions carried out at one of its branches by creating a "fraud" account in the name of counter-terrorist commando force NSG.
  • The federal agency has issued an order on June 3 under Section 13 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) that empowers its Director to impose a monetary penalty on a reporting entity (like Axis Bank) if the agency finds that its designated director on the board or any of its employees failed to comply with the obligations mandated under the said law.
