Exercise Udara Shakti 2024 held at Malaysia

  • After successful participation in Exercise Udara Shakti 2024 at Malaysia, the Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent returned to India, on 10 Aug 24. The joint air exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) from 05 to 09 August 2024 at Kuantan, Malaysia. The IAF participated with Su-30MKI fighter jets.

Gujarat CM launches IACC's Centre of Excellence for MSME

  • Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated Indo-American Chamber of Commerce's (IACC) Centre of Excellence for MSME in the city, Ahmedabad.
  • The Centre, the first ever by IACC in India, aims to upgrade and strengthen Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to effectively cater to the export markets, said the release. 

SAMEER transfers technology for Sugar Content Measurement to private entities

  • Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER), a R&D Institute of MeitY, Government of India, signed a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement for Microwave based insitu BRIX measurement system with Toshniwal Hyvac Pvt. Ltd. and Sir Automation Industries to enable manufacturing of this system in large numbers. The Technology Transfer took place in presence of Secretary, MeitY, Shri S Krishnan, in Mumbai. 

Amazon India partners with Gentari for 10,000 EV fleet by 2025

  • Amazon India has formed a strategic partnership with electric mobility firm Gentari for its EV deployment programme as it targets a fleet of 10,000 electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries by 2025.

First ever Global Women’s Kabaddi League to kick off in September 2024

  • With the aim of promoting kabaddi on a global level, the first-ever Global Women’s Kabaddi League is scheduled to take place in September 2024. The League is organized by the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA) in collaboration with World Kabaddi.
  • The League, known as the Global Pravasi Women’s Kabaddi League (GPKL), will bring together women athletes from over 15 nations in a first-of-its-kind tournament. This event aims at promoting kabaddi on the international stage, furthering the goal of including kabaddi in the Olympic Games, The League is set to launch in Haryana, focusing on promoting and developing women’s kabaddi globally. 

Los Angeles to host the 34th Summer Olympics in 2028

  • The 33rd Summer Olympics ended on 11 August 2024, when the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, accompanied by the athletes and French swimmer Leon Marchand, extinguished the Olympic flame in the host city of Paris, France.
  • The Olympic flag was handed over to the city of Los Angeles, USA, which will host the next 34th Summer Olympics in 2028.

Senior IAS Officer T V Somanathan Appointed Cabinet Secretary

  • Finance Secretary T V Somanathan was named as the new Cabinet Secretary by the government for a tenure of two years. He will succeed incumbent Rajiv Gauba, who completes his unprecedented five-year term in the top bureaucratic post this month-end.

International Youth Day

  • International Youth Day is an awareness day designated by the United Nations that takes place on August 12. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. The first IYD was observed on 12 August 2000.
  • Theme for the International Youth Day 2024 is: From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development. 

World Elephant Day

  • World Elephant Day is an international annual event on August 12, dedicated to the preservation and protection of the world's elephants, The World Elephant Day was co-founded on August 12, 2012, by Patricia Sims from Canada and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand, an initiative of HM Queen Sirikit of Thailand.
  • The theme for the World Elephant Day 2024 is - Personifying prehistoric beauty, theological relevance, and environmental importance”.

India, Maldives Renew MoU to train 1,000 Civil Service Officers

  • India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, and the Maldives' Foreign Minister, Mr. Moosa Zameer, renewed the Memorandum of Understanding MoU for capacity building of 1000 Maldives civil services officers during the period 2024-2029 Malé as part of the development partnership discussions between both the nations on 9th August in Malé, Maldives.
