INTERNATIONAL

India & Taiwan Signed Mutual Recognition Agreement for Organic Products

  • The India-Taiwan Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) for Organic Products came into effect on 8 July 2024. This was announced at the 9th Working Group on Trade Meeting of Indian and Taiwan in New Delhi. The landmark agreement is likely to give a push to trade in organic products between the two countries.
  • Under the agreement, organic products from India can be exported to Taiwan after it is certified by a competent authority in India which confirms to the provisions of the National Programme for Organic Production.

WHO has launched MeDvlS Global Platform for Medical Device Information

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched the ‘Medical Devices Information System’ (MeDvlS), an online platform for information on medical devices, MeDvlS is designed to support informed decision-making for governments, regulators, and users when it comes to selecting, procuring, and utilising medical devices for diagnostics, testing, and treatment of diseases and health conditions.

Rajat Sharma Elected as NBDA President

  • Rajat Sharma, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of India TV, has been elected as the President of the News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA), the largest organization of news broadcasters in India, consisting of almost all major news networks in the country. 

Lt Gen Shankar Narayan assumes appointment as Commandant of Army Hospital (R&R)

  • Lt Gen Shankar Narayan, NM, VSM, assumed appointment as the Commandant of Army Hospital Research & Referral (R & R) - the apex hospital of the Armed Forces Medical Services on 10 July 2024.
  • An alumnus of the 1982 ('U') batch of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, the General Officer specialised in Pediatrics, did post-doctoral sub-specialisation in Neonatology from AIIMS, New Delhi and trained in Pediatric Liver Transplantation at the King's College Hospital, London.

World Population Day

  • World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
  • "Leave no one behind, count everyone" is the theme for World Population Day 2024. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres commented, "This year's theme highlights the importance of investing in data collection to understand issues, tailor solutions, and drive progress.

CSIR and MSSRF Sign MoU for Rural Livelihood Generation

  • The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) entered an MoU to work together for livelihood generation among rural, tribal, and farming communities, Under the MoU, CSIR will transfer affordable and impactful technologies developed in its laboratories to MSSRF-selected groups, including SHGs, NGOs, and FPOs.

India Ranks 6th at World's Most Affordable Country for Immigrants in 2024': Report

  • Asian nations took six of the 10 spots on the list in 2024, dominating the list. India (6th) , along with Vietnam (1st), Indonesia, The Philippines, and Thailand, ranked in the top 10 Southeast Asian countries in the Expat Insider 2024 survey, conducted by InterNations, drew participation from over 12,000 expatriates across 174 countries, offering a comprehensive view of expat life worldwide. Key areas of assessment included quality of life, personal finance, working abroad, and overall satisfaction levels.

PNB Launches 'Safety Ring' Feature to Combat Cyber Fraud

  • Punjab National Bank Launches 'Safety Ring' Feature to Combat Cyber Fraud, 'Safety Ring' is an optional feature that allows customers to set a daily transaction limit for term deposits (TDs) when closing them online or using them for overdraft facilities. This limit helps protect the customers' accounts from fraud by restricting how much can be withdrawn or used. 

Federal Bank & Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance enter into bancassurance tie-up

  • Federal Bank, a prominent private sector bank in India and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance, one of India’s leading private life insurers, has announced a strategic partnership. ICICI Prudential MF launches India's first oil & gas ETF

  • ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund has launched the ICICI Prudential Nifty Oil & Gas ETF, India's first exchange traded fund (ETF) in the oil and gas sector. The scheme will track the Nifty Oil & Gas TRI, an index that reflects the performance of listed sector companies.
