Tunisian president wins second term

  • In an election that was criticized by rights groups, Tunisia’s President Kais Saied has won a second term with more than 90% of the vote, only two candidates out of more than a dozen other hopefuls were allowed to stand against President Saied in Sunday's ballot, where only 29% of the more than nine million registered voters took part.

DigiLocker partners with UMANG app for seamless access to govt services

  • The National e-Governance Division today announced the integration of the UMANG app with DigiLocker to provide citizens seamless access to a wide range of government services. 

Union Cabinet Approved the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal, Gujarat

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal - Gujarat, The project will unfold in two phases, and it aligns with the government’s broader vision to highlight the country’s ancient maritime prowess, which dates back over 4,500 years.

  • Andrés Iniesta, The Spaniard, maestro of the game announced retirement from professional football after a long 22 years serving in the field. The player who represented the National team of Spain and FC Barcelona, one of the best clubs in the world. 

Indian women’s team wins bronze in Asian Table Tennis C’ships

  • The Indian women’s team made history by securing a monumental bronze medal at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. This is country’s first-ever medal in the women’s team category. During the semifinals, India registered a 1-3 loss to Japan while in the other semifinal, China lost to Hong Kong by 3-0. In this competition, both losing semifinalists are awarded bronze medals.

Indian BusinessTycoon Ratan Tata Passed Away

  • Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of one of India's biggest conglomerates, Tata Sons, has died at 86. Just on Monday, the industrialist in a social media post had dismissed speculation surrounding his health and had said he was undergoing routine medical investigations due to his age.

  • World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10. It was first initiated in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). This global observance aims to raise awareness about mental health issues and mobilize efforts in support of mental health care worldwide. 

World Sight Day

  • World Sight Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of October, is a global event meant to draw attention to blindness and vision impairment. It was originally initiated by the SightFirstCampaign of Lions Club International Foundation in 2000.

3 Scientists Get Nobel Prize in Chemistry for Work on Protein Structures

  • Scientists David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John Jumper won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, for their work on the structure of proteins. The prize, widely regarded as among the most prestigious in the scientific world, It is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and is worth 11 million Swedish crowns ($1.1 million).
