Chirag Paswan inaugurates 8th edition of Indusfood in Noida

• The Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan inaugurated the 8th Indusfood 2025 at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh on 8 January 2025. The first Indusfood was held in 2017 and it has been held annually since 2019 in Greater Noida. 

Adani Group collaborates with ISKCON, to offer ‘Mahaprasad Seva’ to devotees

• Ahead of the inauguration of Mahakumbh 2025, the Adani Group has joined hands with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) to serve meals to lakhs and crores of devotees and pilgrims arriving in Prayagraj for the Shahi Snan and Kumbh Mela.

Anahat Singh wins Under 17 British Junior Open 2025 Squash Tournament

• Indian Squash prodigy Anahat Singh defeated Egypt’s Malika Elkaraksy to win the women’s Under 17 British Junior Open 2025 Squash tournament in Birmingham, England. Last year Anahat lost in the final to Egypt's Nadien Elhammamy in the Under 17 category. 

OBITUARY

Renowned journalist Pritish Nandy passes away

• Renowned journalist, writer, filmmaker, and former Rajya Sabha MP, Pritish Nandy, passed away at his residence in Mumbai due to cardiac arrest. He was 73. His final rites were performed yesterday evening. Pritish Nandy was known for his extensive writing in English, and he also translated poems from Bengali, Urdu, and Punjabi into English.

Tuhin Kanta Pandey appointed new Revenue Secretary

• The finance ministry underwent a major bureaucratic reshuffle ahead of the Union Budget 2025-26, with senior bureaucrat Tuhin Kanta Pandey, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1987 Odisha cadre, named as the new revenue secretary. 

Walmart-owned Flipkart hires Dunzo co-founder Kabeer Biswas to lead Minutes

• Walmart-owned e-commerce firm Flipkart has roped in Dunzo co-founder Kabeer Biswas to lead the company’s quick commerce business, Minutes. He will collaborate closely with Flipkart's Senior Vice-President, Hemant Badri, and is set to begin on January 13, according to sources. Investors in Dunzo, which is currently facing financial difficulties, were informed by Biswas about his decision to leave the company.

World Hindi Day

• World Hindi Day, celebrated annually on January 10th, commemorates the global significance of the Hindi language, aiming to promote its use worldwide and foster cultural connections by highlighting its reach beyond India's borders; this day marks the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference held in Nagpur, India in 1975, which was initiated by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to elevate Hindi's international presence.

PhonePe partners with ICICI Lombard to offer Maha Kumbh Mela insurance

• PhonePe on Thursday announced a partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance to offer insurance cover for people travelling to the Maha Kumbh Mela. The insurance plan, available from January 13, 2024, to February 25, 2025, will be offered in two variants. 

Supply chain platform KredX secures RBI's approval to launch TReDS platform

• Supply chain platform KredX received final approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to launch its Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) platform under the brand name DTX (Domestic Trade Exchange).
