India signed key pact with Panama for Quick Impact Projects

  • With tensions brewing over US staking claims on the Panama Canal, citing Chinese influence, India has signed an important umbrella agreement with the central American country to implement, for the first time, Quick Impact Projects (QIP). The agreement was signed by India’s Ambassador to Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, Dr. Sumit Seth, and Panama’s Foreign Minister, Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez, in Panama city Capital of Panama. 

Joint Military Exercise ‘Cyclone 2025’ Between India and Egypt Begins in Rajasthan

  • A significant military collaboration between India and Egypt has commenced with the launch of the joint exercise ‘Cyclone 2025’. This exercise, taking place at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, is set to run for 14 days. Aimed at bolstering the defense ties between the two countries, it focuses on enhancing the interoperability of special forces while sharing professional skills in challenging desert environments.

8th edition of ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ held in New Delhi

  • The eighth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha (PPC), an interactive program initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today (February 10), 36 students from all States and Union Territory have been selected to interact directly with the Prime Minister.

Former Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne Retires from International Cricket

  • Former Sri Lankan captain and opener Dimuth Karunaratne bid farewell to international cricket after playing his 100th Test against Australia in Galle. The 36-year-old scored 36 and 14 in his final match, which Australia won by nine wickets to secure a 2-0 sweep of the series. ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised Karunaratne’s remarkable career, highlighting that he became only the seventh Sri Lankan cricketer to achieve the milestone of 100 Tests. 

Kyrian Jacquet Wins the 2025 Chennai Open Tennis Single Title

  • Kyrian Jacquet of France won the 2025 Chennai Open Tennis men’s singles title by defeating Elias Ymer of Sweden in the final. The final was played at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam, Tamil Nadu on 9 February 2025.
  • The 2025 Chennai Open Tennis tournament was an ATP 100 Challenger event. It was held from 3-9 February 2025 at Nungambakkam, Tamil Nadu.

Namibia’s ‘founding father’ Sam Nujoma Passes Away

  • Sam Nujoma, the activist and guerrilla leader who became Namibia’s first democratically elected president after it won its independence from apartheid South Africa, died aged 95.

Manipur CM N. Biren Singh Resigns Amid Political Turmoil

  • In Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh submitted a resignation letter from the post of Chief Minister of the State to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. Shri Biren, who led the BJP government in Manipur since the party came to power in 2017, stepped down amid ongoing political developments in the state. His resignation comes after months of unrest in the state and internal party politics.

  • National Deworming Day (India) is observed every year on February 10th It is a day when children between the ages of 1–19 are treated for intestinal worm infections. The day aims to improve the health, nutrition, and education of children. 

International Epilepsy Day

  • International Epilepsy Day is a global event observed annually on the second Monday of February, aimed at raising awareness about epilepsy, its symptoms, treatment options, and the challenges faced by people living with the condition; it's organized by the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) to promote understanding and support for individuals with epilepsy worldwide.

 Gulf of America Day

  • In a historic move, US President Donald Trump has officially recognized February 9 as “Gulf of America Day,” following a significant change to the name of the Gulf of Mexico. This marks the first time such a day has been established, and it comes after President Trump signed an executive order to rename the Gulf, an initiative that has drawn both national and international attention.

India Retains Third Position in World LEED Ranking for 2024

  • India remains third in the US Green Building Council's (USGBC) annual list of the top 10 countries and regions for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications in 2024. Around 370 projects spanning buildings and spaces were certified in India, covering an impressive 8.5 million gross square Metres (91.5 million sq ft) of space. China topped the list, with over 25 million GSM certified, followed by Canada at 10 million GSM.
