DAY-NRLM Launches Million Designers, Billion Dreams with LEAP

  • Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) announced the launch of the initiative “Million Designers, Billion Dreams.” This innovative program aims to empower individuals across India with systems design know-how to tackle complex societal challenges. Spearheaded by LEAP in collaboration with the DAY-NRLM. LEAP is a catalyst organization that emerged from the multidisciplinary work developed in India by the Design Laboratory at the Harvard T.H.

Aman Sehrawat Breaks Sindhu Record to be Youngest Medallist at Olympics

  • Aman Sehrawat became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal after he won a bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 57 kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics. Aman Sehrawat broke the record of PV Sindhu, who won a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics at the age of 21 years, 1 month, and 14 days.

Boeing names new CEO Amidst losses more than triple

  • Boeing named a new CEO after reporting a core operating loss of $1.4 billion in the second quarter — more than triple the loss from a year ago — as increased scrutiny of the safety and quality of its planes kept the troubled company from making enough aircraft to return to profitability.
  • Boeing announced Robert “Kelly” Ortberg, former CEO of supplier Rockwell Collins, will be its new CEO, effective August 8, replacing retiring Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun, who has been under fire for the company’s problems. 

DBS picks insider Tan Su Shan as first female CEO to succeed Piyush Gupta

  • DBS Group has named Tan Su Shan, the firm’s head of institutional banking, as the next CEO she will replace Mr, Piyush Gupta who is to step down from the post in March 2025, making her the first female CEO of Singapore’s biggest bank.

World Biofuel Day

  • World Biofuel Day is observed on August 10 annually to create awareness about the importance of biofuels that are made from biological materials like agricultural waste, animal waste, algae, trees, crops, or even grass, The theme for this year’s celebration of World Biofuel Day is “Sustainable Biofuels: Reducing Waste, Feeding Energy”.
  • August 10 was designated as World Biofuel Day because it was on this date in 1893 that German Inventor Sir Rudolf Diesel successfully operated his diesel engine with peanut oil. 

World Lion Day

  • World Lion Day was initiated by Big Cat Rescue, the world’s largest accredited sanctuary dedicated to big cats. Celebrated on August 10th, it is a day for people to come together from across the globe to pay tribute to the mighty lion! World Lion Day is an occasion to celebrate the majestic lions that captivate our hearts with their strength and magnificence.

GAIL signes MoU with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam

  • The central government public undertaking GAIL(India) Limited has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUN) to optimise operations of RVUN gas-based power plants in Rajasthan.

Dr. Bhesh Bahadur Thapa awarded Hem Bahadur Malla honour for 2079 BS

  • In a ceremony held in Kathmandu, President of Nepal, Ramchandra Paudel, presented the Hem Bahadur Malla Honour for the year 2079 BS to Dr. Bhesh Bahadur Thapa. The award, established in memory of Hem Bahadur Malla, a prominent administrator and founding chair of Salt Trading Corporation.

RBI increases UPI payment limit from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has provided major relief to UPI consumers. The central bank has increased the limit for making payments through UPI from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
  • After the three-day bimonthly Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that UPI has become the most preferred mode of payment due to its convenient features. 

Pine Labs-owned Setu Partners With Axis Bank To Roll Out UPI-focused Payments Platform

  • Setu, a Pine Labs company, in partnership with Axis Bank, today launched UPISetu, India’s only UPI-focused payments platform for businesses and developers with a variety of UPI products and advanced functionalities.
