As educational institutions across India prepare for the new academic year, students seeking admission to prominent universities such as the National Institute of Design (NID), the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA), and MICA expect significant fee increase.
Notably, NID has increased its fees for the Bachelor of Design (BDes) degree to Rs 16.87 lakh, indicating a heavy increase that prospective students must now consider before taking NID exam.
This fee revision is part of an overall pattern in Indian higher education, in which institutions are forced to modify their fee structures due to rising operating costs and the need to provide modern amenities and educational resources.
NID officials have revealed the new fee structure, which includes an increased structure for each semester, as well as hostel fees for Indian students.
The following is an in-depth overview of the semester-wise fee increase for NID's BDes program for the academic year 2024-25:
Semester | Fee (INR) |
1, 3, 5, 7 | 2,12,900 |
2, 4, 6 | 2,11,400 |
8 | 2,01,500 |

These modifications raise the overall fee of the whole BDes degree to Rs 16.87 lakh, higher from prior years, reflecting inflationary pressures and improvements in educational infrastructure.
Simultaneously, IIMA announced a fee hike for its renowned one-year PGPX program. The fee for the 2024-25 class is now Rs 33 lakh for single accommodation and Rs 35 lakh for married student lodging, with an additional cost for the International Immersion Programme.
This adjustment indicates an increase of almost Rs 1.5 lakh over the previous year, highlighting the institute's continued efforts to maintain global educational standards in the face of financial challeneges.
Furthermore, MICA has also raised the fees for the two-year PGDM and PGDM-C programs, as well as the one-year CCC degree, by 9% for the upcoming batch. The revised fee structure is outlined below:
Program | Previous Fee (2023) INR | New Fee (2024) INR | Increase |
PGDM/PGDM-C | 21.93 Lakh | 23.95 Lakh | 9% |
CCC Program | 8.46 Lakh | 9.21 Lakh | 9% |
Vinit Shah, Head of the Finance Department at MICA, responded on the rise, claiming that it was required by inflationary trends and necessary improvements to their educational offerings.
According to Shah, the fee adjustment will help MICA provide a world-class teaching infrastructure as well as extra resources to satisfy the program's expanding demands.
These fee modifications at notable educational institutions reflect a nationwide trend of raising tuition costs to cover rising expenditures while still providing a high-quality education.
For students and parents, these developments highlight the growing financial commitment required to pursue higher education at top Indian institutions.
