Chapter 1

  2. Let A = [-1,1], then, discuss whether the following functions defined on A are one-one onto or bijective.

(1) f(x) = x/2

(2) g(x) = |x|

(3) h(x) = x |x|

(4) k(x) = x2

  1. Find the value of cot (tan-1 α + cot-1 α)
  2. Determine the principal value of cos-1( -1/2)

  3. The cost of 4 kg onion, 3 kg wheat, and 2 kg of rice is Rs 60. The cost of 2 kg onion, 4 kg wheat, and 6 kg rice is Rs 90. The cost of 6 kg onion 2 kg wheat and 3 kg rice is Rs 70. Find the cost of each item per kg by matrix method.

  1. If f (x) = |cos x|, find f’(3π/4)
  2. Determine the points of continuity of the composite function y = f[f(x)], given that, f(x) = 1/x-1.
  3. Explain the continuity of the function f(x) = sin x . cos x

  1. For the given curve: y = 5x – 2x3, when x increases at the rate of 2 units/sec, then how fast is the slope of curve changes when x = 3?
  2. What is the equation of the normal to the curve y = sin x at (0, 0)?

  1. A circular disc of radius 3 cm is being heated. Due to expansion, its radius increases at a rate of 0.05 cm per second. Find the rate at which its area is increasing if the radius is 3.2 cm.

  2. Integrate the given function using integration by substitution: 2x sin(x2+ 1) with respect to x:

Chapter 10

  1. Find the unit vector in the direction of the sum of the vectors a⃗ =2i^−j^+2k^ and b⃗ =−i^+i^+3k^.
  2. Show that the points A, B, and C with position vectors a⃗ =3i^−4j^−4k^, b⃗ =2i^−j^+k^, and c⃗ =i^−3j^−5k^ form the vertices of a right-angled triangle.
  3. Find all vectors of magnitude 10√3 that are perpendicular to the plane of i^+2j^+k^ and −i^+3j^+4k^.

Chapter 11

  1. Find the direction cosines of the line passing through the two points (– 2, 4, – 5) and (1, 2, 3).
  2. Find the angle between the pair of lines given below.

(x + 3)/3 = (y -1)/5 = (z + 3)/4

(x + 1)/1 = (y – 4)/1 = (z – 5)/2

  1. Show that the lines (x – 5)/7 = (y + 2)/-5 = z/1 and x/1 = y/2 = z/3 are perpendicular to each other.

  1. Solve the following linear programming problem graphically:

Minimise Z = 200 x + 500 y subject to the constraints:

x + 2y ≥ 10

3x + 4y ≤ 24

x ≥ 0, y ≥ 0

  1. A dietician wishes to mix two types of foods in such a way that vitamin contents of the mixture contain at least 8 units of vitamin A and 10 units of vitamin C. Food 'I' contains 2 units/kg of vitamin A and 1 unit/kg of vitamin C. Food 'II' contains 1 unit/kg of vitamin A and 2 units/kg of vitamin C. It costs Rs 50 per kg to purchase Food 'I' and Rs 70 per kg to purchase Food 'II'. Formulate this problem as a linear programming problem to minimize the cost of such a mixture.
  2. Solve the following LPP graphically:

Maximise Z = 2x + 3y, subject to x + y ≤ 4, x ≥ 0, y ≥ 0

Chapter 13

  1. The probability of solving the specific problem independently by persons A and B are 1/2 and 1/3 respectively. In case, if both the persons try to solve the problem independently, then calculate the probability that the problem is solved.
  2. A fair die is thrown double times. Assume that the event A is "odd number on the first throw" and B the event "odd number on the second throw". Compare the independence of the events A and B.
  3. A die is thrown twice and the sum of the numbers rising is noted to be 6. Calculate the is the conditional probability that the number 4 has arrived at least once?
