MAT Exam Analysis for Mathematical Skills

Arithmetic had the highest weightage among the 40 questions in the MAT Mathematical Skills section. Approximately 15 questions were based on topics like Interest, Percentages, Time & Work, Profit & Loss, and Partnership.

While these questions were moderate in difficulty, they were somewhat time-consuming.

Other topics covered in this section included Equations, Ratio & Proportion, Geometry & Mensuration, Permutation & Combination, and Probability. Overall, the difficulty level of the section was moderate.

Candidates performing well in this section had a significant advantage, as it could be a percentile booster. A score of 28-29 marks was likely to fetch a 90+ percentile in this section.

MAT Paper Analysis for Data Analysis and Sufficiency

The Data Analysis & Sufficiency section was dominated by Data Interpretation (DI) questions, with topics such as Graphs, Pie Charts, Bar Diagrams, Line Graphs, and Data Comparison being the most prominent.

Time management was a key challenge, as solving these questions quickly and accurately proved difficult. DI questions comprised more than 50% of the section, while the remaining part included Data Sufficiency and Data Comparison questions.

A score of 21-22 marks was likely to secure a 90+ percentile in this section.

MAT Exam Analysis for Intelligence and Critical Reasoning

The Intelligence & Critical Reasoning section comprised 40 questions, with a greater focus on Analytical and Logical Reasoning, while Critical Reasoning had fewer questions.

Key topics included Family Relations (10 questions), Statements-Cause & Effect (10 questions), and others like Statement-Assumptions, Reasons, Analogies, Directions, Series, and Incorrect Terms. The questions appeared both as sets and standalone problems.

This section was slightly lengthy but maintained a moderate difficulty level. A score of 25-26 marks could result in a 90+ percentile.

MAT Exam Analysis for the Indian and Global Environment

The Indian & Global Environment section is not considered for percentile calculation in the MAT exam. As a result, many candidates either skipped it or attempted only a few questions to allocate more time to other sections.

Although AIMA recommended 15 minutes for this section, most candidates found 10 minutes sufficient to complete the 40 questions. The questions covered a wide range of topics, including G-20 Summit, Climate Change Summit, Central Vista, SCO Meet, Recent Elections, JIO-Facebook Deal, Awards, Government Policies, Budget, GST, CAA, Constitution of India, Key Appointments, Capitals, National & International Events, US Trade Policy, Russia-Ukraine War, and the Israel-Hamas Conflict.

Since this section primarily tested awareness rather than reasoning, no rethinking or recalling was needed for unknown or confusing questions.

Candidates could attempt each question in less than 30 seconds.

MAT Exam Analysis 2020

The MAT 2020 PBT test was held on February 16, 2020, between 10 AM and 12:30 PM at 51 centres in India.

Experts observed that its pattern was similar to the December 2019 test, with no surprise changes.

Yet, a thorough analysis of both PBT and CBT versions showed apparent differences in their test patterns, a trend that is expected to continue.

The overall difficulty level was easy to moderate, although a few questions in Language Comprehension, Data Analysis, and Mathematical Skills were comparatively more difficult.

A score of 110+ was approximated to get a 90+ percentile.

This was the second time AIMA administered the PBT exam following CBT, the first being in September 2019.

Conversely, the December 2019 PBT exam was conducted before the CBT. As a result of lower turnout, the PBT exam was restricted to 51 centres across the country.

Given below is a detailed paper analysis of the MAT 2020 PBT exam.

  • Beginning with the Language Comprehension section, 4 RC passages were presented in this section with five questions each. 2 of the RCs were fact-based, and the remaining 2 had opinion-based passages.
  • The Reasoning section contained 18 - 20 questions, primarily from Family Relations and Statements-Cause & Effects. Apart from a few difficult questions, the section's difficulty level was moderate overall.
  • The Data Analysis and Data Sufficiency section had a healthy mix of graph and pie chart questions.
  • There were a few Data Sufficiency questions based on Graphs and Pie Charts, but these were on the more challenging side of the scale.
  • The Mathematical Skills section was found to consist of predominantly Arithmetic type questions. The level of difficulty was moderate.

Our MAT 2025 exam analysis has provided a comprehensive review of the difficulty level of the exam, section-by-section analysis, and reasonable attempt expectations, enabling candidates to evaluate their performance.
