The High Court of Gujarat published the official Gujarat Civil Judge Notification in the second week of March 2024. The commission publishes the notification on its official website.

  • If your age is below 35 years and you have completed a bachelor's degree in Law, you can apply for the exam.
  • The exam selection process involves prelims, mains, and viva-voce tests. All three phases are qualifying in nature.

As said above, the Gujarat High Court released 208 regular vacancies for civil judge posts. However, it reserves the right to alter the number of Gujarat Judiciary Vacancies 2024 notified.

Gujarat State Judiciary Salary 2024 

The salary of a Gujarat High Court Civil Judge ranges between Rs. 27,700 - Rs. 44,850 per month. Apart from PCS J Salary, the civil judge can get many other allowances and perks, as mentioned below:

Gujarat Judicial Services Eligibility Criteria 2024 

If you are willing to apply for the exam, you must satisfy the Judiciary Exam Eligibility Criteria set by the Gujarat High Court.

Educational Qualification

  • You must hold a degree in Law from any recognized university by Indian Law and practice as an Advocate in Courts of Civil or Criminal Jurisdiction on the last online application form submission date. (or)
  • If you passed the Law Degree in 2011-2021 and onwards, you must have also given the All India Bar examination to be eligible for the Gujarat civil judge exam 2024. (or)
  • You must work in the Courts or other Allied Departments on the last date fixed to receive applications. (or)
  • Also, you must have a basic knowledge of Computer Applications from a government institute or any other recognized institute.

Age Limit

  • As per the notification, your age should be below 35 years if you belong to the general category to apply for the Gujarat Civil Judge Exam 2024.
  • For SC/ST category, the maximum age limit is 38 years.
  • If you work in the Courts or other Allied Departments, your age should not exceed 40 years.

Gujarat Civil Judge Application Form 2024

You must complete the Gujarat Judiciary Application Form on or before the last date to avoid any discrepancies.

  • The initial step is online registration. You can register for the exam by clicking on the link present on the official website.
  • Once you click the link, the required fields to enter shall appear on the screen.
  • You need to enter a registered mobile number and all the required details.
  • Once you click the "save" button, your application number shall appear in the new window.
  • Now, re-login to the portal using your application number and date of birth and upload your signature and photograph.
  • Before final submission, you can preview the online form by clicking on the "Edit Application" icon. You cannot change the registration form once you click the "confirm application" button.
  • After clicking on the confirmation icon, you will receive an SMS to your registered mobile number.
  • The final step is fee payment, which can be done online or offline as per your choice. Keep the fee receipt for your reference to avoid any discrepancies in the future.
  • Take the print of the application form on A4 size paper and save it for future reference.

Gujarat Civil Judge Exam Fee

Fees of the Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Exam depend on the category you belong to. If you belong to the general classification, you must pay Rs.1,000 and other bank charges for the exam.

The application fee is Rs. 500 if you belong to a scheduled tribe, scheduled caste, physically disabled person, educationally or socially backward classes, veterans, etc. 

There is a separate payment section where you can pay the fee through SBI e-Pay by clicking on the "Pay fee" option.

Gujarat Civil Judge Exam Admit Card 2024

A call letter is a mandatory thing you must carry to the exam hall without fail. Gujarat Judicial Services Commission will release the admit card two weeks before the exam.

Note that any disparity/discrepancy in the details mentioned in the admit card and the ones provided during registration will result in the cancellation of your candidature.

Gujarat Civil Judge Exam Pattern 2024

According to the Judiciary Exam Pattern, there are three stages in the Gujarat Civil Judge post-selection process: prelims, mains, and interview/viva-voce.

Preliminary Exam Pattern

The Preliminary Examination of the Gujarat Judiciary will be objective.

  • Paper –1 (Law) 
  • Paper – 2 (Test of Gujarati Language) 

- Prelims question paper 1 consists of 100 questions, and each question carries one mark. 

- There is a negative marking of 0.33 for each wrongly answered question.  

- The duration of prelim paper 1 is 2 hours. 

- You must score a minimum of 50% marks in the prelims exam to get shortlisted for the mains examination. 

- Prelims question paper 2 consists of 50 questions. 

- The duration of the prelim's paper 2 is half an hour. 

Mains Exam Pattern

The Gujarat Judiciary mains examination consists of two papers:

  • Paper 1: Criminal
  • Paper 2: Civil

Papers 1 and 2 shall carry 100 marks each, and the duration is 3 hours. 

You can take papers one and two either in English or Gujarati. You have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the mains exam to get shortlisted for the viva-voce.

Viva-Voce Test (Oral Interview)

The viva-voce shall carry 50 marks. The main objective of the viva-voce is to assess your suitability for the cadre by judging the knowledge of the Law, the balance of the judgment, mental alertness, clear and logical exposition, attitude, skills, ethics, power of communication, power of assimilation, intellectual depth.

You need to score at least 40% marks in this test to get selected for the Civil Judge post in Gujarat.

  • To be eligible for the preliminary exam, you must score at least 50% marks for the main examination. However, the commission will not consider the marks obtained in the prelims exam while preparing the final merit list.
  • The computer shall evaluate all the entries of the preliminary examination paper.
  • The High Court does not entertain any queries related to rechecking the OMR sheet, as all the evaluations are done by computer scanning without human intervention.
