DJS Rank 1 Samridhi Talwar Interview: Journey Marked by Hard Work & Resilience

Samridhi hails from Delhi, where she completed her schooling at Mount Carmel School, Anand Niketan in 2017. Her interest in law led her to pursue a BBA LLB from the University School of Law and Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU).

After completing her LLB in 2022, she set her sights on becoming a judge and dedicated herself entirely to judiciary preparation.

However, her journey wasn’t easy. She faced setbacks in her first two attempts:

  • Chhattisgarh Judiciary Exam 2023 – Couldn’t qualify
  • Himachal Pradesh Judiciary Exam 2023 (July) – Couldn’t qualify

Despite these early challenges, Samridhi did not lose hope. She continued preparing rigorously and went on to qualify in both Rajasthan and Delhi Judiciary Exams in 2024.

Choosing Delhi Judiciary Over Rajasthan Judiciary

Samridhi had successfully cleared the Rajasthan Judiciary Exam 2024, yet she chose to appear for the Delhi Judicial Services (DJS) Exam. When asked about her decision, she shared:

"Delhi was always my main aim. I have lived here all my life, my family is here, and I have a strong community. I am also an only child, and I believe it is my duty to be there for my parents rather than asking them to move for me. Delhi has shaped me as a person, and I want to give back by serving its judiciary."

Her personal connection to Delhi, combined with her passion for law, made her decision clear.

Facing the DJS Interview Panel- Challenges & Key Learnings

Even a Rank 1 candidate faces tough moments in the final interview round. Samridhi encountered challenging questions related to:

  • Bail Jurisprudence – Recent cases like Arun Krial’s bail and the principle "Bail is the rule, jail is the exception"
  • Section 41A CrPC – Importance of issuing notices before arrest, discussed in Satender Kumar Antil case
  • New Criminal Laws (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita - BNS) – Introduction of Community Service as a punishment and its application in specific offenses
  • Civil Procedure Code (CPC) – Legal remedies available if an application for amendment of pleadings is rejected
  • Urgent Nuisance Cases (Section 144 CrPC) – Who has the authority to issue such orders in Delhi?

Though there were some moments where she could not recall certain answers, she handled the situation with confidence and honesty, demonstrating qualities essential for a future judge.
