Sourabh Kumar (99.98 Percentile) - CAT 2024 Topper Talk

Supergrads: Congratulations, Sourabh, on this fantastic achievement!

Sourabh: Thank you so much! It feels incredible to have my efforts recognised.

Supergrads: Can you share what emotions you experienced when you first saw your results?

Sourabh: I saw my results at the examination centre, and I felt extremely happy and relieved. It’s a big achievement for any student.

Supergrads: You've had strong support throughout your journey. Can you tell us about your preparation approach?

Mentor (Dpan Sir): Absolutely! I want to extend my congratulations to Sourabh. Throughout this journey, what impressed me was his ambition and clarity of purpose. Unlike many of his peers who were focused on securing basic jobs, Sourabh aimed much higher from day one.

Supergrads: That’s inspiring! Can you tell us more about Sourabh's character during preparation?

Mentor (Dpan Sir): Well, he comes from a humble background and has a solid academic foundation. His siblings are also doing well academically. Throughout his preparation, Sourabh was always looking to improve himself. He identified his weaknesses, particularly in language skills, and worked tirelessly to turn those into strengths. It’s remarkable to see how he pushed himself beyond his limits.

Supergrads: What do you think sets Sourabh apart from others?

Mentor (Dpan Sir): His discipline and ability to overcome setbacks truly define him. Whenever he felt low, instead of giving up, he motivated himself to keep pushing forward. That mindset is what distinguishes him from many others.

Supergrads: Sourabh, when did you decide that you wanted to crack the CAT and get into an IIM?

Sourabh: My determination grew in class 12 when I prepared for various entrance exams. I was shortlisted for IIM Jammu but chose to pursue my B.Tech in Electrical Engineering instead. During my time at MIT, I enrolled in SuperGrads for CAT preparation and focused on my target of getting into an IIM.

Supergrads: That sounds like a solid plan! Can you share any memorable moments from your preparation journey?

Sourabh: There were plenty of moments, especially during the preparation for the GIP and IPM courses, which were challenging but rewarding. Overcoming those challenges is what makes this achievement special to me.

Supergrads: Thank you, Sourabh, for sharing your journey and thoughts with us today. Your story is truly inspiring!

Sourabh: Thank you for having me!

Rahul Choraria (99.85 Percentile) - CAT Topper Talk

Supergrads: Hi Rahul! Congratulations on your remarkable achievement in the CAT! It’s great to have you here to share your journey. To start off, can you tell us a bit about How to prepare for CAT like a topper?

Rahul: Thanks! It feels amazing to be here. Well, since I'm currently in my last year at BITS Pilani, pursuing Manufacturing Engineering, juggling everything was quite a challenge. I had to enjoy campus life and manage projects while finding time to study. I dedicated at least one hour every day exclusively to CAT preparation.

Supergrads: That’s impressive! Balancing college life and preparation can’t be easy. What was your daily routine like?

Rahul: Hostel life at BITS is fantastic, but it does come with its own demands. Typically, I wouldn’t get more than 5 to 6 hours of sleep during weekdays. On weekends, I’d catch up a bit more, but during the week, I had to maximise my study time amidst academic rigour and, of course, social activities.

Supergrads: It sounds like you kept a busy schedule! How did you approach your mock tests?

Rahul: I started with SuperGrads mocks, and let me tell you, the first one was a shocker. I scored just one mark in the DLR section! It was pretty demoralising at first.

Expert Tips on How to Prepare for CAT GDPI

Supergrads: Wow, that must have been tough. How did you turn things around?

Rahul: Yes, it was a reality check. I realised I wasn’t prepared for managing time during the exam. But I kept practising, and as I took more SuperGrads mocks, my scores improved significantly. In fact, I got the second rank in Super Cat 6!

Supergrads: That’s a huge improvement! Can you share any strategies or CAT topper mindset that helped you during your preparation?

Rahul: Absolutely! After analysing my performance in the mocks, I devised a tailored strategy for all three sections. For the VA section, I aimed to solve three questions in the first 25-30 minutes. For DLR, I focused on quickly scanning through the data sets and starting with the one that I felt most comfortable with.

Supergrads: Smart approach! In the actual CAT, how many sets were you able to attempt?

Rahul: During the actual exam, I managed to complete two sets and was just about to finish the third one. It was a hectic yet fulfilling experience!

Supergrads: It sounds like a rollercoaster! Lastly, are there any final tips for students preparing for the CAT?

Rahul: Keep a consistent study schedule, practice as many mocks as possible, and don’t get disheartened by initial setbacks. Analyse your mistakes and adapt your strategies accordingly. Stay focused, and you'll see improvement!

Supergrads: Fantastic advice, Rahul! Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences with us. Best of luck with your future endeavours!

Rahul: Thank you! It was great to share my journey.

Chitranshi Gupta 99.68 %ile - CAT Toppers Talk

Supergrads: Let’s dive into your journey. What was your experience like while preparing for CAT 2023?

Chitranshi: Honestly, it was a journey full of ups and downs. As you mentioned, I never imagined myself as a topper. I simply worked as diligently as I could. Scoring in the 99th percentile was beyond my expectations. It’s something I always aimed for, but I never thought I’d achieve it.

Supergrads: Were there any specific challenges you faced during preparation?

Chitranshi: Yes, absolutely. The Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC) section was a big hurdle for me. I used to think my English was weak, and I struggled a lot with VARC initially.

Supergrads: Despite those challenges, you scored 99.33 percentile in VARC, which is phenomenal! How did you turn it around?

Chitranshi: Thank you! Yes, it was a surprise for me too. About 70% of my preparation time was dedicated to improving VARC. I knew it was my weak area, so I worked extra hard on it. Mock tests and consistent reading were crucial.

Supergrads: Tell us a bit about your educational background.

Chitranshi: Sure! I pursued commerce in my 12th grade and later completed my B.Com Honours from Vikram University.

Supergrads: Let’s talk about the Quantitative Ability (QA) section. You mentioned earlier that QA was your strength. How did that play out in the exam?
Chitranshi: Yes, QA was something I was confident about. I thought it would help boost my overall score. However, this year’s QA section was unexpectedly tough for me. I ended up scoring lower than I anticipated, while my VARC score exceeded expectations.

Supergrads: That must have been surprising! How did you manage to adapt?

Chitranshi: It definitely was. I focused on accuracy rather than attempting too many questions. Even though I attempted fewer questions, I ensured they were mostly correct. That strategy worked well in the end.

Supergrads: You participated in the SuperCAT mock test series, which is known to be one of the toughest and most relevant for CAT aspirants. How was your experience?

Chitranshi: SuperCAT was incredible! It’s the most relevant test series I’ve ever taken. The questions were so challenging, especially in VARC, that they prepared me well for the actual exam.

Supergrads: That’s great to hear! Did the mock tests help boost your confidence?

Chitranshi: Absolutely. Scoring well in the SuperCAT tests was a huge motivator. It made me believe I could tackle the real exam. I also experimented with different strategies during the 10 SuperCATs, which helped refine my approach.

Supergrads: You also won some rewards in SuperCAT. How did that impact your journey?

Chitranshi: Winning rewards was a big confidence booster. I still remember when I won the first prize of ₹3,000 in SuperCAT 3. Sharing that moment with my mother was very emotional. It felt amazing to earn something through my hard work.

Supergrads: Let’s share some tips with future CAT aspirants. What advice would you give for the DILR section?

Chitranshi: My top tip for DILR is to trust yourself. It’s a vast section with complex sets, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Focus on maintaining accuracy. For example, in CAT 2023, I attempted two sets. One was entirely correct, and in the second set, only one question had a negative mark. This strategy helped me achieve a 97.77 percentile in DILR.

Admission Process of Top B-Schools

Supergrads: That’s impressive! What about CAT topper tips for QA?

Chitranshi: For QA, my advice is to cover the entire syllabus. Don’t skip topics like algebra or geometry, thinking they won’t appear. This year, QA surprised many students. A well-rounded preparation is essential. Also, focus on accuracy—QA tests your aptitude more than theoretical knowledge.

Supergrads: Many aspirants struggle with motivation during preparation. How did you stay motivated?

Chitranshi: It wasn’t easy. There were days when I felt completely drained. During such times, I reminded myself of my goals and sought support from my mentors and family. Small wins, like doing well in mock tests, also kept me going.

Supergrads: What role did your mindset play in your success?

Chitranshi: A strong mindset is everything. Staying consistent and believing in yourself can make all the difference. For me, building confidence in my weaker areas, like VARC, was a game-changer.

Supergrads: Finally, what message do you have for CAT 2024 aspirants?

Chitranshi: Stay consistent and trust the process. Focus on your weak areas, but don’t neglect your strengths. Mock tests are your best friends—analyse them thoroughly. And most importantly, believe in yourself.

Supergrads: Thank you so much, Chitranshi, for sharing your inspiring journey and valuable tips. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours and hope you get into your dream IIM!

Chitranshi: Thank you so much!
